if i am not mistaken, the old runway lights that was used in the old davao international airport runway was transferred to the runway of the kalibo airport. pati rin yata ang old baggage conveyor ng DIA inilipat jan sa kalibo.

ps..
ganda ng control tower ng kalibo. international na international ang dating.

question...does kalibo now have an ils? kasi i heard that an ils will be installed there na eh.

Maybe alot of OFW will benefit from it either, it will be cheaper for their employers to get tickets for a much cheaper price especially if Zest Airlines has regular service between KLO and some Korean cities like Icheon for instance. The only drawback there is I think OFW has to go through POEA (I think) before they depart for their destinations, I could be wrong though.

That picture of Kalibo Airport from Aklan thread looks nice. I hope more pictures would come up together with Caticlan airport.

POEA offices are regional, and the Western Visayas office is in Iloilo (I think though they have an extension office in Bacolod).

Apparently, this is the caticlan airport. It looks nice. Very fitting for a tropical island paradise...

I think the interior is just Ok but of course needs alot of improvements. Medyo masikip at mainit sa loob lalo na pag sabay sabay pasahero..

Overall, its a nice terminal and just need few improvements...

off topic.. imo when i used it when we went to boracay last summer, caticlan airport was very disappointing! the interior is too old and dilapidated, very small waiting area, lack of airconditioning!! and the rest rooms made me upset even the x-ray machine is full of rust.. i felt lonely because boracay is such a beautiful destination and there are tons of tourists but the airport is in that condition!! the government boasts of the place and they have seen and used the terminal yet there are no actions being made.. the only thing i find positive were the samsung lcd monitors.. its almost 2010 and the airport is lagging behind it's neighboring airports.. if they want boracay to have an overall good image and maintain its position as one of the top tourist spot, the government should prioritize this airport!! i really hope!!

Air Philippines(PAL Express) is going back to Caticlan starting December 1. This is cool hehe... I don't know what will be the future of SEAIR once all big competitors including Zest Air and Cebu Pacific returned to Caticlan.
Because right now, they are very happy of monopolizing this route... Hope SEAIR will buy or lease bigger planes to compete to other destinations as what Zest Air did.

wow..that's good news..

SEAir really is monopolizing the route. At sa tingin ko mamamatay talaga sila if bigger air companies will start is service to Caticlan. Buying bigger planes can be an answer., however the question will be, is the company capable of buying large planes as of the moment?

PAL Express resumes flight to Caticlan Airport

by Jeremiah F. de Guzman
Manila Standard
Dec.5, 2009

PAL Express, formerly Air Philippines, resumed flying to Caticlan Airport on Dec. 1 after suspending flights to the Boracay Island gateway for five months.

PAL Express, a sister company of Philippine Airlines of tobacco tycoon Lucio Tan, joins SeAir as the only airlines flying to Caticlan. Other airlines stopped flying to the airport because of landing mishaps caused by Caticlan’s short runway.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines welcomed the resumption of PAL Express flights.

“The resumption of flights to Caticlan is a welcome development but there are special requirements that airlines must comply with to observe the highest level of safety,” said CAAP director Ruben Ciron.

In July, Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific Air and Zest Airways suspended direct flights to Caticlan and rerouted to Kalibo, an hour away from Boracay by land.

SeAir was the only local carrier that continued flying to Caticlan because of its smaller aircraft fleet that fits short runways.

PAL Express, which has a code-sharing arrangement with PAL, will now fly eight times a day to Caticlan from Manila and twice a day from Cebu, using the Bombardier Q300 turboprop aircraft.

Caticlan Airport had recorded about 60 flights daily on peak season, including charter airplanes and air taxi services, CAAP said.

Ciron said Caticlan was still under renovation and the “one runway landing and one runway take-off” remained in place.

The air regulator imposed the limit following several landing mishaps. Pilots find it difficult to land on Caticlan because of a 45-meter tall hill near runway 24 that blocks their flight.

CAAP had already spent some P32 million to provide additional 60 meters of runway strip at both ends, Ciron said.
