The Miami Herald Building is gone for good.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/12/1...o-vote-on.html

glad they finally turn it down, Yes the miami herald maybe a legendary newspaper but that building was the ugliest and most idiotic building in this city's history, be glad for it to be gone in 2013.

Thank goodness resort world miami will be built.

Praise God! That is one we don't need to keep! Now Genting can move forward!

No surprise here. The building has not been maintained in years. I used to visit the building at least once every week as recently as this last summer and the interior is in poor condition. The vote just makes it official (to knock it down). As someone already mentioned, this is good news cause it is a clear indication that Genting has the green light to carry out their plans.

I just really hope that the building does not get torn down and that nothing gets built there and we end up with just a parking lot. I say this since I believe Genting has not quite been approved by the state yet right? Also, does anyone know where The Miami Herald will move to?

At the very least, Genting is going to build a high-rise condo right there on the bay, gaming or no gaming!

This a very good news, it is a great step up for Genting, What should do The Herald/El Nuevo Herald is build an iconic building in Downtown, maybe make an association with Univision/ABC or Telemundo/NBC and make a media hub in downtown core and have a presence, since Miami, is hub for latin american television and spanish speaking brodcasting, could be interesting, Not just move to Doral like I think they are planning.

You mean the gaming? Didn't they say they wanted to build a luxury condo on the bay anyway?

LVS is still interested in the MWC site. We'll just have to wait and see what happens there.

I like this idea a lot, would bring add a lot of prominence and activity to downtown.

Definitely never felt the Herald building rose to historic status (or ever would) but before we set off too many fireworks lets remember we still have little idea what Genting will actually do there. The original plan is no longer in the works, according to them, and the current proposal is much downsized from that.

I'd also mention the Herald (and El Herald) moving to Doral also means a LOT of well-paid employees moving out of the downtown core right along with it. These are people who spend plenty of money downtown on a daily basis who will no longer be there. That's not really a positive, folks.

Could it all be superceded by something on that site that fosters MORE economic activity? Sure. And hopefully it will (especially that once-proposed convention space that I would love to see revived) but right now we don't KNOW that will be the case..so I remain curious how this will actually evolve, rather than how we imagine it might.

Don't know, Spell! My only concern at the moment is that people were afraid that Genting wasn't going to develop anything without the gaming, so I just reminded them that Genting did indeed have something planned without the gaming. I'm only celebrating that they are able to move forward with this out of the way and have a little more momentum than they had before for whatever they plan to do.

Spell, The Herald were moving to Doral no matter what. The newspaper had ideas to sell the land before Genting came along. There have been massive layoffs and wage cuts over the past few years at One Herald Plaza, the company may soon start to stabilize, but will be in no position to grow its staff again. There will be an impact downtown when the news team moves West, but the designation of the building is only a concern of the new owners.
