54-Story, 33-Unit Residential Tower Rises At 520 Park Avenue, Upper East Side
http://newyorkyimby.com/2015/12/54-s...east-side.html

Quote:
YIMBY partially revealed schematics back in 2013 of Zeckendorf Development’s planned 54-story, 33-unit ultra-luxury residential tower at 520 Park Avenue (formerly 45 East 60th Street), in Lenox Hill. Later that year, demolition wrapped up on the site’s old low-rise structures. Since then, work has focused on building the project’s foundation. In recent months, however, the tower has finally begun to rise, as seen in these photos by Tectonic, and concrete is now being poured for the fourth floor. Robert A.M. Stern Architects is designing the limestone-clad structure, which will eventually host some of New York’s most opulent condominiums. Completion is currently expected in 2017.

it's great to see new towers wich classic designs next to modern designs. A point which makes NYC so unique!

The columns of those balconies should look amazing.

This is how the balconies looked on the model:

..It's nice and clean but i can't help feeling a bit uncomfortable with Stern's designs...the same way i feel when in Vegas:everything looks fake..
In Newport Beach also we have plenty of cheap looking individual houses with tuscan faux finish..
...My parents sent me so many times to Europe to learn about Art that i just don't buy a Deco inspired(?)building with a concrete facade and PVC windows..

I actually think Stern's version of traditionalism is the antithesis of Vegas or Southern Californian faux architecture. Stern avoids most of the embarrassing flourishes that lesser examples make. It's much more modern, stripped down and refined. It may be boring or safe, but they make good neighbors and improve the skyline.

I agree it's not Vegas, but small details like the PVC windows can and sometimes do ruin the illusion, at least from up close.

Agreed. The white window frames are the worst. Imagine how much better 30 Park Place would have looked with bronze or steel windows.

Wouldn't say so. That brick building is real treasure compared to this tackiness going above.

It may seem boring from the outside, but inside it's really interesting.
