Rooftop pool at One Thousand Museum by Zaha Hadid:

Quote:
ExMiami scored renderings of the Aquatic Center and Skylounge on the 60th and 61st floors that make the building look like something straight out of a James Bond movie. Like, why are there no sharks with lasers on their heads in that pool? And a buxom blond Bond girl dangling from a hook as she's slowly lowered down to be eaten alive? Seriously people! It's a pool with an underwater glass wall 60 stories above Biscayne Boulevard.

Interesting. It is somewhat similar to her Central Bank of Iraq design with those "flowing ribbons" columns. Makes the neighboring towers look rather dull.

Sorry for the OT question, but I have to ask:

That's hard to believe. New York has about 250 buildings over 500 feet, only second to Hong Kong (~280).

Just curious.

More skyscrapers are definitely on the way. The quote in my signature line is not hyperbole. It's really happening. We do have height restrictions because of the proximity to MIA, but we can at least go to 1,010 feet in parts of the CBD and in parts of the financial district closer to the bay. The height limit for where One Thousand Museum is 709 feet.

Notice he said metro miami, and I'm sure he's counting more than buildings over 500 feet. In the 500 feet and up range, it's more like 50 in the entire metro area. The metro Miami area includes all the high-rises along and near the coast going all the way up to beyond West Palm Beach. Then, we have cities like Aventura, Coral Gables, and the Kendall area. The metro Miami area would also include all the high-rises in Fort Lauderdale, so it's not all that hard to fathom.

Q? Thanks for clarifying that! I was using the criteria that Emporis uses and how they define a "highrise" so obviously there are many buildings below the 500 foot/ 152 M mark as well.
Last time I communicated with one of the Emporis senior editors he said the Miami metro has more than 1100 + highrises ranking it 3rd. in the nation behind NYC & Chicago and that what several years ago. I have had that signature line even longer
Miami & Houston (cities only not metros) are competing for the #3 spot in the US for the number of buildings over 500'| 152m with some 30+ skyscrapers over that height.

Miami edged out Houston for the 3rd largest skyline in the U.S. by the end of the last decade. In this decade, Miami will leave Houston in the dust. Much is planned and the market is very strong in Miami right now.

Quite interesting tower, indeed rather Dubai-ish - some more Miami appeal would help here. Perhaps nice neon lights illumination for the night.

somehow i dont like it... some lower parts look like a dick beside that lower and upper part dont fit together. i like most of zaha hadids work, but her style doesnt fit the miami cookie cutter style even though you can see that she tried hard to adept to the settings.
too many different schemes when you go from ground level to top.

I love it, but those big renderings are misleading as there are buildings all around it.
