too many different schemes when you go from ground level to top.
Although I find the building a bit garish, perhaps getting close to the point of being almost comically stupid looking by trying to hard to be futuristic, I think the fact that it doesn't fit in with the 'cookie-cutter' style and takes Miami in a new direction is a good thing. Why would we want more cookie-cutter buildings conforming with a banal style? Not every tower has to 'fit in'. Even though the lower half of the tower isn't my favorite and the design is rather outlandish and weird due to that odd shaped base, it is a good development as Miami needs to move into getting more iconic buildings that catch the eye. Although this building would look more at home in some other city and that the dystopian-sci-fi theme is ugly overall and doesn't fit Miami's sunny image at all, at least it's more interesting that the usual miami special.. hopfuly this is a sign of better designs to come in the future, even though I see Miami is still getting plenty of the usual boxy balcony-covered towers that have zero identity and could be found in any tropical resort city globally.

I'd love to see Miami get more futuristic, cyberpunk-esque skyscrapers. It's a sunny city in the tropics, but adding some of that unusual aspect would be cool to see.

Inside The Very Zaha Sales Center Of Zaha Hadid's Miami Tower

Quote:
Work just completed on the sales center for the queen of parametric deformations Zaha Hadid's Miami condo tower, her first skyscraper in the western hemisphere, One Thousand Museum. The sales center is at Ten Museum Park downtown, another tower by developers Gregg Covin and Louis Birdman that's next door to the building site, and is stuffed with furniture designed by Zaha as well as an elaborate ceiling installation by Zaha too.

The sales center opening suggests that we're mere months away from a groundbreaking.

One Thousand Museum Wins FAA Approval

Quote:
Zaha Hadid's exoskeletoned condo palazzo, One Thousand Museum, has gotten the green light from the Federal Aviation Administration, according to developer Gregg Covin.

The tower has received its Letter Of No Hazard, meaning there's no risk of of a plane-go-splat-on-starchitect-designed-tower situation from aircraft arriving or departing from Miami International Airport.

Here Are The Floorplans Of The $45 Million Zaha Penthouse

Quote:
When completed, the totally bonkers One Thousand Museum by starchitect Zaha Hadid, the Zaha Building, or Zaha's Building for short, will be topped by an appropriately intergalactic two level penthouse. For $45 million, the sprawling super villain's lair apartment has double height living and master bedroom areas, a private circular elevator, and a second private elevator leading up to the building's rooftop helipad. It has a games room, a circular grand staircase, a second circular grand staircase "just because", and a media room with adjacent lounge.

I like the white lines criss-crossing the outside of the building. It looks like a giant insect with long antennae is crawling up it. Why I find that an appealing image, I can't really say. But when you look at this tower lined up with the existing buildings, it looks so much better than what's already there.

I read on the news that this project recently passed FAA review. I wonder if any of the Miami forumers could update us on expected start of construction?

Sales have been slow: 33% of One Thousand Museum units have been reserved. That compares poorly with other properties that are selling out quickly. Construction will have to wait until the financing is in.

It will still probably get built though right?

I think so. Miami WorldCenter, a massive $4 billion shopping and entertainment complex is going in nearby so the high-beta location of this tower will be less of a disadvantage. (towers located in Miami Beach and Brickell sell out quickly)

1000 Museum's Exoskeleton Preps For June Groundbreaking

Fun with concrete!

Quote:
As the June groundbreaking of Zaha Hadid's One Thousand Museum quickly approaches, the architects and engineers are planning, and designing, and mocking-up various parts of the tower, including the exoskeleton. Public relations people sent over these few images showing the process, and just how much of literally a massive, almost brutalist, thick-as-hell block of concrete we're talking here. It almost looks like it was just chiseled out of the earth rather than poured, showing just how wild this exoskeleton idea really is.

Yes it will be built. The reason this project is taking so long is because there is a closed gasoline station on the site that has to be demolished first and the under ground tanks have to be removed. They also have to test the soil for environmental purposes to make sure the soil hasn't been contaminated as well.

The little BP gas station that stood in the way of 60 floors of Zaha can now be safely dispatched to Regular Unleaded Valhalla...
