It was in fact China who approached Airbus for this regional A330. Leahy said their will be orders in the near future. First deliveries will start from the end of 2015, so they have some time to gather a few sales.

Airbus is it expand its services in the fast growing South East Asia region, the manufacturer said today.

The aircraft developer will open a joint venture maintenance unit at Sepang Aircraft Engineering (SAE) in Malaysia. A new Airbus Customer Services Centre is also set to be built adjacent to SAE.

The centre will provide 24/7 specialist major aircraft engineering and repair services.

Developments were announced at a ceremony at the SAE site at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, where construction of a second hangar was launched.

The new hangar will be able to hold three A320s and will specialise in the maintenance and overhaul of Airbus single-aisle aircraft.

Airbus' president and CEO, Fabrice Bergier, says: "The announcements we are making today reflect the enormous potential we see for the aerospace industry in South East Asia.

"With a skilled talent pool, quality workmanship and competitive cost base, Malaysia is one of the countries that have the right ingredients to become a key partner for Airbus."

Both initiatives are the first in a series of projects that will see Airbus increase its footprint across the region and provide more support services for operators of its aircraft.
The Asia-Pacific region accounts for 31 per cent of all orders recorded by Airbus and it has more than 2,270 aircraft in service in the region.

Airbus booked a string of new A330 orders last month.
http://www.airbus.com/company/market/orders-deliveries/

China firmed up 16 orders that was outstanding for quite some time, mostly because of the trade conflict between China and the EU over the EU carbon tax.

The distribution of the orders among the different Chinese airlines.

Air China:
6x A330-300
China Eastern:
6x A330-200
1x A330-300
China Southern:
1x A330-300
Hainan:
1x A330-200
1x A330-300

Plus the order for 4 from Scandinavian Airlines makes it 20 in total for October and 42 for this year.

Qatar Airways expands its Airbus A330 Freighter fleet

Deal worth $2.8bn for up to 13 A330-200Fs including options
Complementing three A330-200Fs already operated by Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways has placed a firm order for five new Airbus A330-200 Freighter aircraft in an agreement signed at the Dubai Airshow 2013. These new aircraft will complement the airline's rapidly growing network, which includes more than 40 routes that have dedicated freighter services. Included in the order are eight additional A330-200F options – which would make today’s deal potentially worth over $2.8bn at list prices for a total of 13 aircraft. These aircraft on order will complement three A330-200Fs Qatar Airways already operates since earlier this year.

“The A330 Family has demonstrated outstanding operational reliability and performance for both our passenger and cargo transport operations. It is with this in mind that we chose to expand our freighter fleets with more A330-200Fs,” said Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways CEO. “We aim to be the best in everything we do, the air cargo market is no different, which is why we ordered the most modern and economic cargo aircraft available in its category.”

Airbus President and CEO, Fabrice Brégier said, “Qatar Airways is one of our key partners in the region, and its selection of the A330-200F illuminates its ambitious plans as the airline expands and invests in new freighter aircraft. The A330-200F, with up to 70 metric tonnes of payload, is the only viable alternative to large freighters in today’s fast changing market, making it an ideal choice for a constantly evolving carrier.”

Qatar Airways continues to be a highly valued customer and partner with Airbus – a relationship which has flourished since the airline received its first Airbus aircraft in 1997. Today Airbus aircraft form an ever more essential cornerstone of Qatar Airways’ global operations with more than 200 aircraft directly ordered across all modern Airbus product families, from the single-aisle A320 all the way up to the flagship A380.

Aimed at replacing ageing mid-sized freighters, the A330-200F offers an alternative to larger freighters within fleets. Benefiting from the technical superiority and market success of the A330 passenger version, it will offer opportunities to grow frequencies in under-served markets at no additional cost-per-tonne.

The A330-200F is the world’s most modern mid-size freighter and can carry 70 tonnes of payload, with a range capability of up to 4,000nm. This range and payload capability provides flexibility for both regional and intercontinental operations, versatility to match costs and frequencies with market expectations, thereby allowing operators to grow existing business and expand into new routes.

Air Algérie orders three A330 passenger aircraft

Air Algérie has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for three A330-200 passenger aircraft as part of the carrier’s continued growth plans. This order has been placed at Dubai Airshow 2013.

The new aircraft will be deployed on medium and long haul routes from the Air Algérie hub in Algeria. Air Algérie has already ordered a total of five Airbus A330, which have all been delivered to date.

“We are expanding our commercial strategy to strengthen our position in the market by extending Air Algérie network to long haul routes. This is now made possible with the A330 family aircraft,” said Boultif Mohamed Salah, CEO of Air Algérie. “This new order for A330s reinforces our commitment to a family of aircraft which already helps us to achieve our ambitious expansion plans, in a profitable and sustainable manner.”

“The A330 family aircraft is part of the best-selling widebody programme with its unique combination of unbeatable economics, versatility and fuel efficiency,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “Air Algérie is one of our key partners who have managed to expand as an airline with the A330 aircraft and it’s no surprise as we’re consistently investing in the A330 development to ensure its continued leadership in reliability and operating economics.”

The A330 Family, which spans 250 to 300 seats, and includes Freighter, VIP, and Military Transport/Tanker variants, has now attracted more than 1,200 orders, with over 1,000 aircraft flying with more than 100 operators worldwide. The A330 is one of the world’s most efficient aircraft with best in class operating economics. With numerous ongoing product improvements, it still remains the most cost-efficient and capable aircraft, averaging dispatch reliability well above 99 percent.

Airbus is a leading aircraft manufacturer with the most modern and comprehensive family of airliners on the market, ranging in capacity from 100 to more than 500 seats

AirAsia X orders 25 more A330-300s

Airline embarks on major expansion with popular Airbus widebody

18 December 2013

AirAsia X, the long haul affiliate of the AirAsia Group, has placed a firm order with Airbus for 25 more A330-300s. The contract is the largest A330 order received by Airbus in a single purchase agreement and increases the carrier’s total firm orders for the type to 51. These will be supplemented by another six A330-300s leased from International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC).

The contract was signed in Paris today by Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X and Fabrice Brégier, President and CEO, Airbus, witnessed by Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, Co-founder and Director of AirAsia X.

AirAsia X will start taking delivery of its newly-ordered A330-300s in 2015 as it begins a major expansion of its network across the Asia-Pacific region. The new order includes the latest extended range versions of the A330-300, providing the carrier with the ability to offer non-stop service to destinations in Europe or one-stop service to the US.
