Yes, they have also 10 A350-XWB aircraft on order for future delivery.

I love the Air Asia X livery on the A330. The A330 program is like the 767 program is that the fact that customers still want to order both planes. A program that never dies. Nice job Airbus.

Wow! The A330 first flew in 1992 and still selling like hotcakes beating even the 787 with other airlines replacing their old A330s with new A330s. Congrats!

AirAsia X announces $6bn Airbus jet order

Long-haul airline AirAsia X has placed a firm order worth $6bn for 25 more Airbus A330-300 aircraft, the largest A330 order in a single purchase agreement. (source)

Quite amazing they didn't purchase A350-9 XWBs. Airbus will probably tuck in some discounts in there somewhere to reduce the list price cost of the A330s.

No surprise here. Air Asia needed these airliners on short notice. They also have some A350's on order as well, but the delivery times for additional A350's were way too long for them. And they are very happy with how the A330 is performing so it was a no brainer for them to order additional A330's.

Those discounts you mention are part of all aircraft purchase agreements, and since Air Asia needed the airplanes rather quickly Airbus could have held back on discounts. What they will have done is written in the contracts who content we do not know.

But since the A330 is still selling like hot cakes there is no need for Airbus to start dumping the price. On the contrary, they could up the price since the aircraft is still in strong demand.

That's wonderful that all seats are Y+ instead of just plain Y... a few questions:

- Will all seats have PTV and AVOD on board, as well as USB plugs and AC power ports for laptops and devices?
- Will the aircraft offer WiFi during the flight?
- Will the aircraft be assigned to NRT or HND, and how many more options does the airline have for additional orders?

I actually like the paint job for AirAsia X myself... very eye-catching and easy to spot indeed, just like its parent, AirAsia.

Skymark will first use the A330 as a premium LCC on the domestic trunk routes from Haneda, Fukuoka will be first followed by Naha and Sapporo. They just have roomier seats then the standard Japanese domestic product, but nothing fancy in terms of electronics, no PTVs etc. There's no mention of WiFi yet, but that doesn't mean that it won't have it.

All their A330s are leased, so there are no options to be taken up. They could easily lease more if they want to of course.

Leeham reports that there are new (and better) chances for an A330-neo. Especially GE is pushing for this, and in light of the diminishing interest in the A350-800 (which sees all the orders for it converted to the larger and more capable A350-900) and the fact that GE is looking for a broader base for the engines it produces for the B748, are the main drivers behind this possible development.

Very interesting. Here is the link to the story: http://leehamnews.wordpress.com/2013...on/#more-11013
