It will be an all-Y (if not a mix of Y+ and Y, 3-4-3 seating) configuration, around 400 passengers, similar to Cebu Pacific.

Indeed! I love that too... I hope Philippine Airlines can deploy a special livery on at least one of its A330s.

I've changed this thread to allow discussion of another Airbus aircraft, the A340. That way, all Airbus aircraft (both A330 and A340 are wide-bodies) are represented in this forum. Sounds good for everyone?

EK will be fast tracking the phase out of they're remaining 345's. Four 345's will be phased out by December this year registration numbers A6-ERA, ERB, ERC, ERD, and the remaining four 345's will be phased out by March 2015 registration numbers A6-ERE, ERH, ERI, ERJ.

EK also have an 332, and 772 painted in white parked by the maintenance hangers that have already been taken out of the fleet.

The remaining four 343's will also exit EK's fleet next year making it a non A340 operator.

Maybe Philippine Airlines could acquire some of those A340s since it wants to expand its long-haul operations, and it has been operating quite a lot of them for some time now (especially it has recently acquired second-hand A340s from Iberia).

They should have snag the chance when SQ retired their A340-500s!

Absolutely! But, as you know, with Lucio Tan at the helm again instead of Ramon Ang, Jr... That's another reason why he needs to be let go and have another person to take his place. Moving forward, though, how far can the A345 go from Manila if it wants to fully maximize its use?

With Emirates retiring the A345 the 3 remaining airlines to operate this type will be Etihad, Arik Air and Azerbaijan Airlines, plus some VIP and government operators. With just 12 remaining A345s in operation by March 2015 it will become less and less likely that any other major airline will pick up any of the 22 which will be stored. If even Etihad, as an operator of the A345 decides to pick up 2nd hand 77Ls you'll know that it's not the best choice on the market.

As Philippine Airlines recently drastically reduced their ambitions and is actively pushing back deliveries of brand new aircrafts including their remaining A330s on order it's not very likely that they will pick up used A345s instead. If they still want to pick up some cheap new metal they can always increase the number of A343s. Unless they want to throw money away of course, something is likely to happen if they would take A345s.

ps.
Etihad will also retire their fleet in 2015, bringing back the number of active A350s to 8.

The A340-500 has an official range of close to 16200 Kilometres according to airbus website, moreover SIA used to fly them non-stop to New York and Los Angeles a few years back.
