KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3, 2015:

The much-vaunted enhancements to Malaysia Airlines to woo back passengers and seek profitability will start with new A330-300 business class seats to be introduced in April next year.

These new seats, unveiled at the World Travel Market in London, will be in all 15 A330-300 aircraft by September, the national carrier said in a statement today.

Each Malaysia Airlines A330-300 aircraft has 27 business class seats and 263 economy class seats.

“The business class seat pitch, which measures at 43 inches with a width of 20.6 inches and length of 76 inches (fully flat), is one of the best received business class seats in the industry.

“The seats come with increased working space with 90% of all seats having direct aisle access due to the 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 seat layout, with extra stowage space for personal items,” said group chief executive officer Christoph Mueller.

“This product will make us more competitive against other full-service carriers and is part of the airline’s push to be more customer centric, offering new, personalised and innovative products.”

Mueller had earlier said Malaysia Airlines needed to have modern amenities like fully flat beds in business class to keep up with fierce competition, especially with Middle East carriers.

With 43-inch seat pitch, you’ll have all the space you need to continue working comfortably. Each seat comes equipped with power outlet and USB port, with large single leaf meal tray table providing more than ample space for a notebook or tablet. The reading light offers optimal lighting, no matter if you’re sitting down, lounging or lying down.

Watch the blockbuster you missed, discover new music, or play a game or two on the Panasonic 16-inch touch screen in-flight entertainment system as you indulge in a culinary adventure with our on-board meals.

The 20.6-inch wide seat turns into a fully flat 76-inch bed, complete with plush bed linen, allowing you to relax in extra comfort. With 90% of all seats offering direct isle access, you’ll get that uninterrupted rest you deserve.

DUBAI: A330neo to have A350's characteristic mask

Airbus is to adopt the distinctive black cockpit ‘mask’ design on its re-engined A330neo, following its introduction on the A350.

I wonder if SAS new routes to LAX and MIA will work. But SFO is doing fine so maybe... great to see the new 330 aircraft at CPH and ARN.

Despite not winning much order for the a350, Airbus has quietly but quite impressively gained huge orders for the a330 this year(abt 100 frames: 75 for the chinese deal, 20 for Saudia and a couple of smaller orders). Airbus' chinese deal actually beats Boeing's in terms of wide-body order as in total, China has placed a firm order for 75 frames (45 in July plus the recent firm-up of 30 options) vs 50 frames for Boeing.

And these are much-needed orders as it will help bridge the gap till the a330neo comes.

Sorry it was of course the first A340 with the new cabin.

Next one is ready by the end of this month, then one by the end of December and finally the last one this time around by the end of January.

I haven't seen dates for the last 4 just yet.

The only thing that is 100% certain is that the last 2 A330 enhanced (also with the new cabin) will be delivered around when winter becomes spring.

TAP has converted now firmed up their conversion of their A350 order to the A330neo. They changed the order for 12 A350-900s into 14 A330-900neo's.

Quote:
TAP Portugal orders 14 A330-900neo and 39 A320neo Family aircraft

TAP Portugal has signed a firm order with Airbus for 53 Widebody and single aisle aircraft including 14 A330-900neo, and 39 A320neo Family aircraft (15 A320neos and 24 A321neos). The aircraft will join TAP Portugals fleet as part of its fleet renewal announced by the airlines new majority owner Atlantic Gateway. As part of the agreement, TAP Portugal is replacing its previous order of 12 A350-900s with the A330-900neo.

I think TAP ordered the 14 A330-900neo for one reason: they don't need an airliner with the range of the A350XWB-900. Even if the plane in TAP configuration is limited to around 5,900 nautical mile range, that's enough to cover the eastern half of North America, all of Brazil, all of Africa and most of southern Asia from Lisbon (LIS).

Airbus Beluga XL Production Starts

Airbus has announced today the production startup of its Beluga XL Super Transporter, paving the way for the final assembly scheduled to start in early 2017. The first cut of the Beluga XL MSN001 took place in Spain, after completing the detailed design phase. According to the airframer, the rear fuselage section is produced by Aernnova, and it will be the first section to be delivered to the Final Assembly Line of the Beluga in Toulouse, France. Launched in November 2014, the Beluga XL was launched based on the Airbus A330-200 platform, with a large re-use of existing componentes and equipment, in order to address the capacity requirements ahead of the ramp-up production of the A350 XWB and other aircraft production rate increases, besides replacing the current Beluga fleet in service with Airbus Transport International (ATI), subsidiary of Airbus.

The Beluga XL will be powered with Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines. The fleet of five Beluga XL aircraft will provide Airbus with an additional 30 percent extra transport capacity compared to the A300-600ST Super Transporter in service with ATI.

Currently, the Beluga ferries complete sections of Airbus aircraft, produced at various sites around Europe, to the final assembly lines in Toulouse, Hamburg and Seville. Source : http://airwaysnews.com/blog/2015/12/...uction-starts/ and https://twitter.com/AirwaysNews

Here's something that I took when it rained in San Francisco...

On the background is a United Airlines B787-8 (reg. N27908) on hold (when I left roughly an hour later, it stayed exactly where it was).
