Amazing. That is the Philippines' leading low-cost carrier and domestic airline since it does a great number of point-to-point routes from multiple hubs in the country. Let me know what you think of that 414-seater wonder of an A330, configured in all-economy.

SriLankan Airlines is the latest oneworld member airline to reach a fleet renewal landmark. It has just operated its last commercial service using Airbus A340s.

It was the first aircraft to take delivery of the type back in 1994. They are all now retired, in favour of the latest Airbus A330-300s, which offer all the latest passenger comforts, including seats that convert to fully flat beds in Business Class, and, throughout the aircraft, the latest in-flight entertainment system and wifi connectivity.

The airline's final A340 flight was from Chennai to its Colombo hub yesterday. On arrival, the aircraft was given a water cannon salute by the airport’s fire team. Source: https://www.facebook.com/oneworldalliance

A340s are vanishing, people queried Aer Lingus using the A330s on Trans Atlantic services in the 1990s, seems that the 330 will live on for a while!

Some from last year (2015):

EI-EDY Dublin Airport 24 January 2015

A6-EYH Dublin Airport 6 April 2015

C-GTSN Dublin Airport 27 June 2015

D-ALPJ Berlin Tegel 15 February 2015

CS-TOJ Lisbon 25 November 2015

Enjoy!

Yes, the A330 is a great aircraft, but the A340 is a fuel guzzler.

There are still quite a few operators of the A340, one of them being Philippine Airlines. Hopefully, one of these days, I will see it on one of the airline's two flights to San Francisco (the flight numbers are PR114 from Manila, PR113 from San Francisco).

Beyond that, more A330s and A340s!

Another airline says good bye to A340.
Quote:
SriLankan Airlines retires last A340s today

SriLankan Airlines will retire their last A340s after more than two decades in service. The national carrier was the first Asian airline to operate the four-engine Airbus A340 aircraft.

Accordingly the last A340 that is currently in operation will be making its final commercial flight from Madras to Colombo today at 10.50 am.

SriLankan will say good bye to the A340 with a water gun salute upon the arrival of this aircraft from Chennai at the Katunayake Airport.

The Airline embarked upon a wide body fleet renewal programme last year, with plans to induct all new A330-300's and the new generation A350-900's to strengthen its long and medium haul operations. SriLankan, took delivery of its first Airbus 330-300 in October 2014 and the second on December 2014.

The new A330-300 boasts of state-of-the-art cabin features that will redefine the flying experience for passengers in both Business class and Economy class on SriLankan Airlines.

Airbus booked 1 new A330 order in December.

South African Airways order 5x A330-300 (as a conversion from 10x A320-200 ceo's)

In the changes category there was 1 large transaction.

AirAsiaX converted 11 A330-300s into the A330-900neo.

http://www.airbus.com/company/market/orders-deliveries/

The A330 had again another great year:

2015 order total:
gross: 154
net: 140 (90x ceo, 50x neo)

This had mainly to do with large A330ceo end of the line deals for from China and Saudi Arabia.
