Wait... is this a retrofitted Scandinavian Airlines A340-300?

Indeed it was and in the Star Alliance livery.

You will probably see more of them at SFO as only 3 planes are missing and with one down in Zürich for a makeover only 2 of the old planes are in service.

The 8th 340, the socalled ex-LAN will only be in reserve when the last 330 Enhanced is delivered and the last 3 340'ies is retrofitted.

Got it. Scandinavian Airlines does a daily rotation between SFO and Copenhagen, and I've seen the one with Star Alliance livery at least once so far. Bad thing, though, that I didn't step out today and see it... hopefully, I'll see it on Thursday when I head down to San Francisco.

London Heathrow - Madrid Barajas

Here are some photos and a video about my recent trip on an Airbus A340-600 - once the longest passenger jet in the world.
Iberia deploys this widebody plane on its London Heathrow - Madrid route.
Why? I do not know, because the Economy aft section was virtually empty.
What I have noticed, the seat cushions appear to be very dirty. I have never seen this dirt, not even on Easyjet or Ryanair.

Are you talking about other passengers? Well either they weren't sure that the aircraft is empty and you could freely sit wherever you like or they might have been just one of those people scared to look out the window

The A330neo moved from Detailed Design Review to Detailed Component Design about two weeks ago. Final assembly of the first A330neo is scheduled to begin by the end of 2016.

Must have been an A340-300, which are much older. A340-600s should have screens.

Airbus have the same 22 used A340s available that they had prior to announcing the Iran deal. I thought the Iranians might have taken a few off their hands...even temporarily...by now.

It's difficult to imagine any airline taking A340s now, new or used. Even with relatively low fuel costs, A340 operating costs are still so much higher than A330 operating costs that they only make sense for VIP use, where the flying hours are low enough to make them economical if the purchase price is low enough.

The new “Airspace by Airbus” cabin concept

Quote:

http://www.airbus.com/newsevents/new...e-performance/

http://www.ausbt.com.au/airbus-revea...ns-for-a330neo

An innovative new concept in jetliner cabins was launched this week with the “Airspace by Airbus” brand, bringing together an enhanced experience for passengers and optimum performance for airlines based on four dimensions: comfort, ambience, service and design.

Introduced with Airbus’ widebody A330neo (new engine option) version – and incorporated on the A350 XWB – Airspace cabins offer a more relaxing, inspiring, attractive and functional environment for travellers and optimises the use of cabin space for operators.

Kiran Rao, the Executive Vice President of Marketing & Strategy, said Airspace continues Airbus’ non-stop innovation and furthers the company’s leadership in providing cabin comfort excellence – applying advanced cabin technologies developed for its recent programmes.

“The A380 already offers the best comfort of any aircraft, and the A320 is the top in its single-aisle category,” he explained. “Airspace is another step forward, reflecting our decision to bring consistency on our two best-selling widebody aircraft: the A350 XWB and A330neo.”

Signature design elements recognisable throughout all Airspace cabins include wider seats; larger overhead storage bins; spacious, contemporary lavatories with antibacterial surfaces; along with unobstructed under-seat foot space. Other features are a unique and customisable welcome area at the main passenger boarding door, the latest in LED technology for ambient lighting, as well as clean shapes and surfaces throughout the interior.

Features for operators include a range of new galley/lavatory options such as modular Space-Flex to maximise trolley capacity, wheelchair-accessible lavatory configurations to suit individual airline requirements, and freeing up of main deck space to allow for additional seating.

“Such signature details and iconic elements will add to passengers’ enjoyment of flight, while offering a flexible canvas to which the airlines can project their own brand,” Rao concluded.
