Yet another A340-300 from SAS is back in service after C-check and installation of the new cabin.

Its Gudrod Viking aka LN-RKG and she started revenue service on March 21st and has been to Tokyo and Shanghai afterworths.

Next in line is Freydis Viking (OY-KBC) who will be back in service on May 30th and Toste Viking (OY-KBD) on June 29th 2016.

LN-RKP that are chartered will not get the new cabin, but will get the old SAS Plus seats from one of the other planes. This will happen by the end of April.

As I understand it, it doesn´t have any Economy plus seats at the moment so this upgrade is just a small fix.

Here's what I can do to reduce fighting and issues:

- I'll start moving those photos to the respective thread and make sure that I get them all.
- Let's use this thread instead for actual news and discussion of upcoming orders and retirements.

I know sponge_bob is mad at me for not following good example, but, I, too, make mistakes, especially that the newer sub-forum is under-utilized. Let me work on those changes as quickly as I can.

TAP Portugal confirmed as launch operator for A330neo with Airspace by Airbus cabin

Quote:

. First to take delivery of the new A330neo with the Airspace by Airbus cabin brand in 2017

. Providing TAP with the flexible ‘canvas’ onto which it will project its own brand

6 April 2016 Press Release

Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2016 – TAP Portugal has signed an agreement with Airbus to be the first operator of the new A330neo airliner and therefore also become the launching carrier to fly the Airspace by Airbus cabin brand in the A330neo. In 2015, the airline placed a large fleet renewal contract with Airbus which included an order for 14 A330-900neos. Passengers will soon be able to experience the Airspace by Airbus cabin for the first time when these aircraft enter service around the end of 2017.

Trey Urbahn, Chief Commercial Officer at TAP Portugal said: “We are extremely proud to be the first airline to fly the Airspace by Airbus cabin in the new A330neo. Our passengers and flight-crews eagerly look forward to experiencing this innovative new cabin design. Furthermore, the Airspace cabin represents an exciting and flexible canvas onto which we can project the TAP brand.”

François Caudron, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Airbus said: “We are delighted to confirm that TAP will become the first airline to introduce the Airspace by Airbus cabin in the A330neo. Developed with passengers at heart and airlines in mind, Airspace encompasses four pillars: Comfort, Ambience, Services and Design and will ensure that Airbus cabins continue to be the benchmark in passenger experience and airline value.”

Highlights of TAP’s Airspace cabin will include: a new welcome area; the latest mood LED-based lighting system with 16.7 million possible colour variations; larger overhead bins; new contemporary lavatories and latest-generation IFE and connectivity. The Airspace cabin ambience ensures passengers’ wellbeing, while the signature details and iconic elements will be recognisable throughout the cabin.

The relationship between Airbus and Portugal dates back to 1987 when TAP, then Air Portugal, ordered three Airbus A310s. Today TAP is an all Airbus fleet customer and the largest in Portugal with 61 aircraft currently in service, including 43 from the A320 family and 18 of the widebody family, with two additional A330s to enter service this June to support the expansion of the company’s long haul operations. TAP has also placed orders for the latest generation of A320neo and A330neo Families.

The A330-800neo and the A330-900neo are two new members of the Airbus Widebody Family launched in July 2014 with first deliveries scheduled to start at the end of 2017. In addition to its new Airspace cabin interior, the A330neo also incorporates latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and aerodynamic enhancements. Benefitting from the unbeatable economics, versatility and high reliability of the A330, the A330neo reduces fuel consumption by 14% per seat, making it the most cost efficient, medium range Widebody airliner.

Too much work and some photos are news. Its just that some planetype threads are all photos.

Give the worst offenders a chance to post a SINGLE photo if a plane in a sticky "Plane Photo Of The Day" thread in here and let them put their 747 and 380 and Spamtanov pics in there...especially the not news ones. Then we know not to look at it if we dont want to.

If there is genuine news by all means a relevant photo is welcome but floods of non news photos are not welcome and wreck any discussion dynamic.

Some threads are an excellent mix of text news and graphics . I commend our Iranian posters in particular for the mix in the Iran thread...even Patels photo a few days back was spot on...and also Hkskline for the really nice mix of CN/HK news and other bits that they maintain.

The important thing is you can see news in a news thread not floods of photos and no news at all. That is really annoying for many and kills discussion stone dead.

The worst are the 747 and 380 threads.

You've already been asked by moderators to quit posting planespotting pictures in discussion threads. Is that really too hard for you to understand?

Garuda Indonesia to receive 14 A330neo

New aircraft will support company’s business expansion

19 APRIL 2016 PRESS RELEASE
Garuda Indonesia has confirmed an order with Airbus for the purchase of 14 A330-900neo, the new re-engined version of the best-selling A330 widebody airliner, to support the company’s growth and business expansion in the future.

The deal was signed at a ceremony in London in the presence of the President of Indonesia, His Excellency Joko Widodo and British Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. David Cameron MP.

Garuda Indonesia plans to use the A330neo to develop its medium and long haul network, with the aircraft offering cutting edge technology along with more efficient operations. The order replaces and extends an existing order for seven A330-300 aircraft, and the A330neo will be delivered from 2019 onwards.

“We are pleased to announce that we continue our long-standing relationship with Airbus. Both Garuda Indonesia and Airbus fully understand the aim of the deal as a long-term strategy to win the global challenge,” said Arif Wibowo, CEO of Garuda Indonesia.

Arif explained, “The A330neo represents a more-efficient future for Garuda Indonesia. This order restructuring is believed to support our continued commitment to deliver the most modern, comfortable and excellent air travel service to all customers as well as to strengthen the sustained positive growth and business expansion of the company.
“Furthermore, we are confident that this latest technology aircraft will support us to compete better in the industry.”
Prime Minister David Cameron said: “This deal underlines the increasing importance of our ties with Indonesia - a fast growing economy and set to become the seventh largest in the world by 2030.

“We are the fifth biggest investor in Indonesia and our relationship has more untapped potential. We want to encourage more British businesses to seize on these opportunities and we will continue to support them by banging the drum for British skills and expertise.”

Airbus Chief Operating Officer Tom Williams said: “We are delighted to welcome Garuda Indonesia as a new customer for the A330neo.

“The A330neo will bring a range of benefits from unbeatable operating economics including significant reductions in fuel consumption, lower maintenance costs and extended range capability. The aircraft will have Airbus’ all new Airspace cabin which will ensure the A330 continues to be a benchmark for passengers and airlines alike.”

The deal is the latest milestone in a long standing partnership dating back more than 30 years, when the airline took delivery of its first Airbus A300.
The A330-800neo and the A330-900neo are two new members of the Airbus Widebody Family with first deliveries scheduled to start in Q4 2017. The A330neo incorporates latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, aerodynamic enhancements and new cabin features. Benefitting from the unbeatable economics, versatility and high reliability of the A330, the A330neo reduces fuel consumption by 14% per seat, making it the most cost efficient, long range widebody aircraft on the market.

In addition to greater fuel savings, A330neo operators will also benefit from a range increase of up to 400 nautical miles and all the operational commonality advantages of the Airbus Family.

Garuda Indonesia is already rated a five star airline in terms of comfort and passenger services.

Airbus launched its new Cabin brand “Airspace by Airbus” on 23rd March in London. At the heart of this new philosophy, Airbus connects the wellbeing for passengers with the operational performance for its airline customers. Representing the best of Airbus’ cabin innovation and design, Airspace will offer a sophisticated, flexible canvas as a back-drop to enhance the airlines’ own brands.
