Design decision: Airbus employees put a smile on the BelugaXL’s “face”

Quote:
Built as a replacement for the five current Beluga A300-600ST versions that entered service beginning in 1996 (based on the A300-600 jetliner), the BelugaXLs are derived from the larger and more powerful A330-200, sized at six metres longer, one metre wider, and boasting a payload lifting capacity that is six tonnes greater than their predecessors. As an example of its increased payload capabilities, a BelugaXL will be able to carry two wings for the new widebody A350 XWB instead of a single wing currently accommodated on the BelugaST.

News on the neo's 1st flight

A330neo first flight likely to slip to September
Quote:
Airbus will now perform the first flight of its A330neo “at the end of the summer”, a significant delay over its previous timeline for the re-engined aircraft.

Speaking at an event in Toulouse, Airbus executive vice-president for programmes Didier Evrard confirmed the slippage.

The initial Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engine has successfully completed tests, he says: “We will install it during the summer and fly at the end of the summer.”

And the production rate will not go up this year.

Airbus cools on A330 production rate rise
Quote:
Airbus indicates it is not committing to increase the rate of A330 production this year, although it maintains that such a shift would not be difficult.

The airframer had stated last year that it planned to increase the monthly A330 rate to seven in 2017, after it had previously cut output to six as demand for the twinjet slowed.

But speaking at a first-quarter briefing, Airbus chief financial officer Harald Wilhelm signalled that the manufacturer would "stay" at the rate of six aircraft, which leaves the airframer "very well-covered for years to come".

It's just a black paint over the cockpit, like the A350 lol.

Yes they will paint over the windscreen. The aircraft automation is so advanced the pilots don't need to see through the window.

1st flight is now rumored to take place late summer = not before September.

https://www.flightglobal.com/news/ar...-pinto-437522/
article date: 23 May 2017

ps.
It's the 1st flight of the A330-900. I don't think Airbus will be in a hurry with building the 1st A330-800 with the current very low number of orders for this subtype.

Rolls-Royce despatches Trent 7000 engines for A330neo

Rolls-Royce has despatched the Trent 7000 engines that will power the first flight of the Airbus A330neo.

The engines left the Rolls-Royce site at Derby, UK, and, after the nacelles are fitted and powerplant integration is completed at Safran in Toulouse, France, will be installed on the aircraft at Airbus during the Summer.

Eric Schulz, Rolls-Royce, President – Civil Aerospace, said: “We are pleased to have reached this important milestone and look forward to flight testing getting underway later this year.”

Rolls-Royce also provides engines for the original A330, the Trent 700. The 68-72,000lb thrust Trent 7000 will have twice the bypass ratio, will significantly reduce noise and improve specific fuel consumption by 10%.
