The 5 Beluga XL will replace the current A300 based Beluga. By just building 5 it won't need to be fully certified as a commercial production aircraft, saving time and money. But that's also the reason why you won't Airbus selling it to cargo airlines.

But who knows what will happen with the original Beluga's, how much life they have left after they are retired by Airbus.

Isn't that obvious ? The factory-built freighter was only sold in 2-digit numbers, so no way it would even deserve the new engine option.

P2F conversions of existing A330-machines are starting now but numbers will remain low in comparison to the default machine of this market segment (B767-300F/SF/BDSF/BCF).
