Me too, I used to, I mean, I travel to Hong Kong a lot, and I remember absolutely dreading the landings. I don't think I've ever had a smooth touchdown in Kai Tak before, actually.

Its Finally Happened, Kuwait Airways signed the deal With airbus for 10 A350-900 (with 5 options) with delivery starting 2020 and 15 A320neo (with 5 options) with delivery starting 2019.

The article states that the deal includes the lease of 22 aircrafts from Airbus in the meantime while KU phases out the older planes in its current fleet. The leased birds will be 10 A330's , 10 A320's and 2 A321's, with delivery of the first 2 A321 aircrafts in july and 5 A330's before the end of the year.

Sami Alnesef says, "The more fuel efficient models and the simplicity of the new fleet will drive down costs for KU and bring it back to profitability"

Whoa, A330s for KU? Very interesting development... Which variant/s the airline is getting: the -200, -300E, or -300X? Will that mean it will finally retire its older A310s and A343s in the process, while allowing the airline to save fuel and potentially carry more passengers per flight?

Sure. The A330 still has some years left in its development, but I sense that the A330 and A350 are two completely independent projects, in which the former is still being built, while the latter is in the development stage. The A330 caters more to a medium-haul, large-capacity market; the A350 will focus more on the long-haul market, eventually replacing the A340 in the process.

Airbus will have to come up with a A330neo or even a bigger change if they want to extend the product life of the A330 into the 2020s. The full burn reductions of the A350 and the 787 are simply to big to keep the current design as it is.

The A330-300 can quite easily be succeeded by the A350-900, even with the big range difference between the 2 planes. The A350 will still be much more economical on the short routes. The A330-200 is a bit more difficult, the A350-800 is 1 size bigger and the 787-8 has much better economics. Airbus does not have a direct successor for the A330-200 yet, so an A330-200neo could be a serious option.

But there need to be enough interest from the market of course, and they will only bite if the fuel burn is reduced enough to make it come close enough to compete with the 787-8 or the A350-800.

It also depends on the order books of the A350 and the 787, if they continue to be full well into the next decade the A330 could always remain in production as a 2nd rate option that can be delivered on a shorter term then the other 2.

Time will tell how the market will progress the next couple of years, if the number of orders for wide-body planes remains as high as it was the last 10 years the chances are high that the A330 production will have it's future extended well beyond the start of the next decade.

Here is Airbus' A330 production rate forecast:

2013: 10 / month 120
2014: 11 / month 132
2015: 11 / month 132
2016: 10 / month 120
2017: 8 / month 96
2018: 6 / month 72
2019: 5 / month 60
2020: 5 / month 60

That's about 800 deliveries until the end of the decade. The backlog stands about 280 frames so Airbus expect another 520 sales until 2020. That's an average of about 65 sales per year which is reasonable.

Delivery slots for the 787 should be available in 2018 followed by the A350 in 2019. That's an excellent period to start slowing down the A330 production. By the end of the decade, the A330 will be around 30 years old and will probably survive as a freighter until .... 2025 ???

Oman Air orders three Airbus A330s

Oman Air has placed an order for three Airbus A330-300s, increasing its A330 family fleet to 10. The aircraft will be operated on long-haul routes.

Oman Air CEO Wayne Pearce said the additional order “will allow us to continue our strategy of growth with an aircraft we know to be both reliable and profitable, and in addition offering the highest levels of passenger comfort.”

Oman Air’s fleet consists of four A330-200s, three A330-300s, 17 Boeing 737-700s/800s, four Embraer E-175s and two ATR 42s. The airline will be taking delivery of six new 737s as of 2014, and delivery of six 787s is scheduled to begin in 2015.

It is on any airline or airplane website you can look up. I don't post things just to post things on this website unlike some people.

Three A330-200Fs arrive at Qatar Airways

The new A330s have replaced three Airbus A300 freighters that the airline has phased out of the fleet.

“The capacity of Qatar Airways Cargo has been significantly increased with the introduction of the new Airbus A330 freighter into our worldwide cargo route network,” Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said. “The arrival of the A330-200F comes at a time when Qatar Airways Cargo undergoes significant development and growth. The opening of our brand new USD$1 billion cargo facility at Hamad International Airport later this year will see Qatar Airways Cargo handle 1.4 million tonnes of cargo annually, more than tripling the capacity of the existing facility.”

Qatar Airways Cargo will deploy the A330-200F on routes including Amsterdam; Amman, Jordan; Cairo; Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Chennai, India, complementing the operations of the fleet’s Boeing 777F aircraft.

Ulrich Ogiermann, Qatar Airways chief officer cargo, said the airline’s cargo expansion will position Qatar Airways as a leading freighter provider in the Middle East and internationally.

“As we continue to grow our operations and expand our reach to new and underserved destinations worldwide, we look forward to continuing to provide a world-class freighter service to our customers worldwide, with a further commitment to offering only the very best five-star service,” Ogiermann said.

In June, Qatar Airways Cargo will receive its fifth Boeing 777 freighter

Sure, but I believe it's best to acknowledge the website you've taken your news from because many sites nowadays provide a "read more" link that brings the reader to the website where you've taken your article from. Plus, it reduces chances of "plagiarism" which is very evident in today's writing. To me, those news are great, but, I just want you to give credit to the website you've taken your news article from so that they won't run to you and ask "hey, why didn't you cite our website where you got information about this news article?" It's all a matter of honesty.

And by the way, it's posted in the General Rules on Posting thread. You might want to explore that.

Finnair will remove this livery that it's involved in copyright infringement. It turned out that those trees, painted by Marimeko, originally are part of Ukrainian painting dated 1963. Designer of Marimeko confessed that it was copied after Ukrainian painting.

Oh really? Wow, very, very interesting. What was the original painting all about, by the way that has a Ukrainian connection?

Indeed, it has. It was painted by Ukrainian painter, Mariya Pryimachenko, and portraits elements of Ukrainian culture.

The original name is "Travel of the rat". On the left side you can see rat traveling with company (original paint), on the right - print used by Marimeko.

Looks like the first A330-300X by Cebu Pacific has been delivered to Manila already... to be registered as RP-C3341 (in the photo, the registration is F-WWTR).

A new operator of the A330... looks like this will be used on flights between European cities and Tunisia.

Syphax Airlines A330-200 (reg. F-WJKG) -- to be re-registered soon with a Tunisian aircraft registration.
