NEW YORK | 138 East 50th Street | 245m | 803ft | 64 fl | T/O

Midtown East planned rezoning will require complex deal-making

One example includes Extell Development, which purchased a portfolio of parking garages last year including 138 East 50th Street, between Lexington and Third avenues. The city expects the site will be developed with a hotel that could be as large as 924,893 square feet. But first Extell would have to strike deals with hotel giant Starwood Capital Group, as well as the smaller players Ramosar Realty, San Carlos Building Corp., and Samson Management.
This was just posted over at SSP! So great to see another massive tower for New York!

While a 1m sf office tower would be 650 feet, a 1m sf hotel would be very tall.

That's about as much floorspace as 40 Wall Street.

I agree with you, it will be very interesting to see how the both the eastern and western sides of Midtown will be developed in the near future

I don't know how good an example this is but the Four Seasons Hotel New York is 535k square feet and 208 m tall. This one is almost twice as massive so I'd guess no more than 350m?

To give you a comparison for hotel space, the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta, which is 723 feet to the roof and 883 to the pinnacle, contains ~650,000 square feet. For more on the building, click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westin_...ee_Plaza_Hotel

Nice guess! Yes, with the same floor plan, this would be ~1,030 feet to the roof.

That's going to be a lot of rooms for a single hotel. Anybody got an idea on who's going to operate this? Shangri-la? Four Seasons? Sheraton? Hilton? Best Western?~
