The sky is the limit for Manhattan's most expensive penthouse, but its $100 million value may already be in peril by the apartment building that last held the title of NYC's highest price tag.

Real estate developers listing the 8,000-square-foot apartment at CitySpire on West 56th street, which the owner says has the highest terraces in New York City, describe it as a "work of art," reported the New York Times.

Taking up the entire top floor of a high-rise with 3,000 square feet of wraparound terrace on three floors and 135 windows, the opulent pad should offer the best place to soak in the lights of the Big Apple.

That kitchen is painfully mediocre (plain ugly actually) in an environment like that. Just to think what you can do with the kitchen area in a space like this...

That was my sentiment as well, but so is the furniture.

Yeah, it looks like all the money went into buying the space and nothing was left for the furbishing. All the furniture looks too small.

Maybe that penthouse isn't as expensive as it looks. The location is everything, when it comes to cost. That's why I always like to see some context attached to the interior design pictures. Is it for sale? How much? Is it for the lower middle class or for the millionaires? Specific Location? Is someone just posting pics of their home? All important points to make before forming a judgement.

I didn't like that one in Manhattan. Dark wood + gold or fake-gold plastered curtains and furniture + rococo-inspired chairs = 1976

I like the first one more, I only showed the second one because it is the most expensive penthouse in NYC.

I don't mind more traditional design, but only if it's done with more taste and restraint. The columns are an overkill, imho.

And still, it looks like it has enough storage and the necessary equipment. I think the room is too large for the kitchen.

If I am correct, the first occupant of that apartment was NY real estate developer Bruce Eicher, who developed City Spire. After that he went on with what's now called the Bertelsmann Building at Times Square. During development, he allowed a journalist to write a book about the development. That book is called High Rise: How 1,000 Men and Women Worked Around the Clock for Five Years and Lost $200 Million Building a Skyscraper, which is exactly what the book is about. Splendid read, which also explains why Eichner isn't living in that apartment any more.

I can't really judge that interior as I don't appreciate the style in which it is built. Looks like kitch to me but whoever finds that classy should be able to tell if it's done well or not.

If that one in Kyiv is one and the same apartment, it's time to start playing the lottery.

Then again, I know space is a luxury you can used to really quick, but in case you're not, it seems more like emptiness then space, really. I kinda like the idea of only using what you need. Somehow I always feel embarrassed by extreme luxury.

You'd need a GPS system just to get around in these skypalaces. The closet seņorita alone is larger then my living room...
