Thanks to morioli for sharing those picutres

Cidade Nova

ONS e BR2

ONS is a kind of state grid regulator and BR2 will house the corporate offices for one of Petrobras (national oil company of Brazil) subsdiaries.

Those aren't exactly in the port area but in a nearby region that's also heavely degraded.

Huge Waterway being excavated to detour one major river from that area basin and finally solve the chronic flooding problem in that region.

Esse projeto do Porto Maravilha é ''SHOW DE BOLA''. Souberam reutilizar a área urbana já existente para transformar num local bem moderno.

The Perimetral Elevated Highway (Elevado da Perimetral) is currently being demolished to be replaced by a tunnel. An access ramp was removed in October 2012, and the demolition process got underway in April 2013. A one-kilometer section of it was imploded on 24 November 2013. The cleanup process and the demolition of the remaining sections of the Perimetral will probably be finished by February or March of 2014.

The tunnel that is replacing the Elevated Perimetral Highway will practically be opened before the 2016 Olympics; the corridor is such an important link for RdJ.

Here's a small video (that just seems like a movie trailer) depicting the implosion of Perimetral Highway:

And below follows a nice interview with Mickey Jacob, president of the American Institute of Architects, about Rio de Janeiro's harbour zone developing project.
