WestJet has signed the contract and firmed up their order for for 40 737 MAX 8 and 25 737 MAX 7 aircraft.

"Pens at the ready! Today we're signing our agreement with @BoeingAirplanes for the purchase of 65 #Boeing737Max aircraft."
https://twitter.com/WestJet/status/383277332179345408

https://twitter.com/WestJet/status/383281689268461568

This brings the total MAX orders to 1,567, last week the order total already passed the 1,500 after ALC placed a small follow up order for 4 MAXs.

Air Europa also placed a follow up order for 8 737s, probably NGs.

Yeah! I would hope Air Europa would place a bigger order for the MAX. No word about any possible orders for the MAX from the airshow in China. So the only other possible order that has been hinted from Boeing for the year would be Ryanair sometime next month or November. Dubai airshow is coming up too. Never know what to expect from Dubai. Anything is game.

I can't find the press release but I assume it is 4 orders for the -8? The Boeing order list shows 9 737 orders for ALC but it doesn't say which type it is.

It was this tweet from Boeing on 20 Sep 13.

"Here's a milestone we're proud to share. Orders for the 737 MAX have now passed 1,500 (1,502 to be exact)."

The only 737 order last week was for 4 737s from ALC, no mention of te exact type.

Boeing, WestJet Announce Order for 65 737 MAX Airplanes

SEATTLE, Sept. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and WestJet announced today that they have completed an order for 65 737 MAX airplanes, fulfilling the carrier's letter of intent to purchase the airplanes announced on Aug 29. The order, valued at $6.3 billion at list prices, consists of 40 737 MAX 8s and 25 737 MAX 7s. The airplanes are a key component of the Calgary-based airline's fleet renewal initiative.

"We are pleased to announce the finalization of the MAX purchase agreement and look forward to being among the first North American airlines to fly the 737 MAX in 2017," said WestJet President and CEO Gregg Saretsky. "The increased fuel efficiency and enhanced in-cabin amenities provided by the Boeing 737 MAX will contribute to both lower operating costs and a remarkable in-flight guest experience which is supportive of our low-cost business model and combined with our lease renewal options, maintains our fleet plan flexibility going forward."

The 737 MAX brings the most advanced engine technologies to the world's best-selling airplane, building on the strengths of today's Next-Generation 737. The 737 MAX incorporates the latest-technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market. Airlines operating the 737 MAX will see a 13 percent fuel-use improvement over today's most fuel-efficient single-aisle airplanes.

"The 737 MAX is an excellent complement to the WestJet fleet and its low-cost business model," said Brad McMullen, vice president of North America Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The airplane's efficiency, reliability and passenger amenities will enable WestJet to continue to provide its customers high-quality service at a low cost."

The WestJet order continues the momentum of the 737 MAX in the marketplace. The order brings the total number of 737 MAX orders to date to 1,567 airplanes.

Boeing published the new orders for last week which include the Aerolineas Argentinas order. A new order from El Al for 2 737-900ERs and an order for 42 737s for an undisclosed customer. Boeing also booked 12 cancellations.
http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

The new order for the undisclosed customer also doesn't state which version has been bought. So its possible that's it another new undisclosed MAX order, which would be the 8th for which we don't know the customer. With the 12 cancellations I have a feeling this is actually the case. As in a conversion for 12 737 NGs + 30 completely new orders.

We should know in 2 weeks when the monthly order update which includes the subtypes.

I saw that yesterday infact when I was looking at the order list. Is it possible to be launched at the Dubai Air show? Oman Air has a fleet of 737s that could be replaced with MAXs.

Reuters has some exclusive breaking news.

Quote:
Exclusive- Boeing gets $20.7 billion worth of 737 Max commitments from China: sources

(Reuters) - Boeing Co has secured commitments for around 200 of its 737 Max aircraft, the upgraded variant of its best-selling short-haul planes, from multiple Chinese customers, said two sources familiar with the deals.

The deals are worth a combined $20.7 billion at list prices and must be approved by the Chinese government, a usual practice for aircraft orders in the country, before the customers can be identified, the sources said.

It was just a matter of time before this kind of news would come out, they will probably firmed up at some point next year.
