Boeing announced the final orders of 2013, in the last weeks they booked a large number of 737 orders.
http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

flydubai: 75x 737 MAX
flydubai: 11x 737-800

Unidentified:
6X 737 MAX (21-Dec-2013)
8x 737-700 (21-Dec-2013)
75x 737-800 (21-Dec-2013)

20x 737 MAX (26-Dec-2013)
20x 737-800 (26-Dec-2013)

10x 737 MAX (30-Dec-2013)
25x 737-800 (30-Dec-2013)

164x unidentified in total (36x MAX, 128x NG)

This brings the total MAX orders to 1763 (699 new orders in 2013).

The total 737 net orders for 2013 is 1046, pretty close to the 1124 net orders of 2012. Another strong year for the 737 sales wise.

Boeing delivered 440 737s in 2013.

Reuters reports that Spicejet placed an order for 42 737 MAX last year.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/...A060GO20140107

From this we can conclude that the unidentified order for 42 737 MAXs placed on 23-Oct-2013 was them.

Neither SpiceJet or Boeing were willing to respond to this news, it remains a rumor. But it does add up. Now Boeing has to hope that SpiceJet overcomes their financial difficulties and won't become another Kingfisher.

That is also around the time where Qatar was rumored to be interested in buying a share of SpiceJet. Who knows maybe if Qatar is still interested they just might be pushing SpiceJet to go for the NEO instead to have common airframes.

SpiceJet was rumored to go for the neo instead of staying with the 737. A possible interest in the airline by Qatar might fueled those rumors.

But if they already ordered the MAX it's a bit late for any new investor to push them towards the neo.

A couple of days ago PK-LBJ, one of the last two aircrafts of Batik Air, just delivered on 14 December, visited El Tari, Kupang.
Sorry for the quality of the photos, but its every day cloudy and rainy here.

One thing what remarkable was, that the white anti-collision lights on the leading edge near the winglet and on the tail (stroboscopic flashing lights) are not anymore xenon arc flashtubes but LED lights, like the anti-col lights on a SSJ-100.
PK-LBI for example still has the xenon arc flash tubes.

Also the red and green position lights are now LEDs.
Here you can see the red incandescent light on the left wing of PK-LGW and the new LED light on the right wing of PK-LBJ.

Departure of LBJ.

GECAS tops off their earlier NG and MAX orders.
Quote:
GECAS Announces Order for 20 737 MAXs and 20 Next-Generation 737s

January 20, 2014

STAMFORD, CT, Jan. 20, 2014 – GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of General Electric (NYSE: GE), announced today an order for 40 737s. The order, with a list-price value of approximately $3.9 billion, consists of 20 737 MAX 8s and 20 Next-Generation 737-800s.

"We ordered more 737 MAX 8s and Next-Generation 737-800s because demand continues to grow as our airline customers require more fuel-efficient aircraft to compete in the marketplace," said Norman C.T. Liu, president and chief executive officer of GECAS. "This order further strengthens the large GECAS order book.”

The follow-on order increases the GECAS order book for the 737 MAX to 95 airplanes and the 737NG to 387 airplanes, the most for both models by any company in the leasing industry.

"GECAS is an industry leader and this follow-on order reinforces the value of the Next-Generation 737 and 737 MAX in the leasing market,” said John Wojick, senior vice president of Global Sales for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “The 737 MAX will provide GECAS’s airline customers with the best-in-class operating efficiencies and passenger amenities.”

The Boeing 737-800 is one of the best-selling versions of the highly successful Next-Generation 737 family, the most technologically advanced airplanes in the single-aisle market. The Next-Generation 737's market success has been confirmed by investors who consistently rank it as the most preferred single-aisle airplane due to its wide market base, superior performance efficiency and lowest operating costs in its class. The 737 MAX incorporates the latest-technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.
GECAS press release:
http://www.genewscenter.com/Press-Re...737s-44b9.aspx

With this order GECAS becomes the 4 customer that has ordered more then 500 737s (all models).

Southwest Airlines: 941
United: 714 (including Continental orders)
Ryanair: 523
GECAS: 523

This could be a new order, but on 19 June 2013 and on 26 December unidentified orders were placed with similar numbers. It's very likely that it's one of those 2 orders, probably the latter.

Is Etihad manoeuvring a $2.5bn aircraft order for Jet Airways?

India’s Jet Airways could be set to place an order for 50 Boeing 737s raising speculation that Etihad might be behind the deal.
