Boeing to announce Indian Max order at Singapore Airshow

Boeing is set to announce its first Indian customer for the 737 Max at the Singapore Airshow next week.

Speaking to Flightglobal, Dinesh Keskar, its senior vice president for Asia Pacific and India sales, says a "sizable order" for the Max from an Indian carrier will soon be made public.

He would not name the carrier but says that SpiceJet, Jet Airways and Air India are natural potential customers since they already have the 737 in their fleets.

Keskar adds that the airframer is also confident of securing a second Max order from India later this year.

"It will be sizable number," he says. "We're going to press hard to make sure we protect our customer base in India."

Media reports in India claim that low-cost carrier SpiceJet has signed for some 40 737 Max aircraft. Jet Airways is also said to have made a similar Max order.

Keskar admits though that Indian carriers are "not doing well" due to the decline in the rupee, high fuel costs, and high capital costs and taxes in India.

India will however this year still see the entry of two new joint venture carriers - Tata SIA Airlines and India AirAsia. Both operators will use Airbus A320 for their operations.

Keskar says that he is "not even going to try" reaching out to AirAsia because of the large number of A320s the carrier has on its order books. He adds that with the huge backlog for the 737, it was not able to provide narrowbodies to Tata SIA in line with its target to start operations this year

So the long awaited news for the Indian mystery 737MAX order is going to be announced. flight global article.

Myanma Airways to lease 10 Boeing 737s from GECAS

Myanma Airways, the flag carrier of Myanmar, is planning to resume international operations after inking a lease deal with GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) for six Boeing 737-800s and four Boeing 737 MAX 8s.

“This is the biggest aircraft leasing arrangement in Myanmar history,” said Myanmar transport minister Nyan Htun Aung, announcing the deal at the Singapore Airshow.

State-owned, all-domestic operator Myanma, which suspended international operations in 1993, will use the aircraft to launch services to Japan. “Myanma is now going to re-enter the international market, with the support of GECAS, and become well known again in international air travel,” he said. “They used a Boeing 737 before, so this will be second time there has been 737s in Myanma’s fleet.”

The CFM-powered aircraft will be sourced from GECAS’ existing order book. They will be configured in a dual-class layout, with a business and economy cabin. The exact seating configuration is expected to be finalized by August 2014.

Deliveries will start in June 2015. Three 737-800s will be delivered to Myanma in 2015, followed by another two in 2016 and the final -800 in 2017. GECAS president/CEO Norman Liu did not give a delivery schedule for the MAXs, saying only that they will come “later in the decade” and that all the aircraft will arrive by 2020.

GECAS already has two Embraer 190s on lease to Myanma, which is based at Yangon International Airport and also operates two Fokker F28s, two ATR 72s, a single ATR 42, three MA60s and two Beech 1900Ds.

In addition, GECAS’ AviaSolutions consulting business signed a memorandum of understanding with Myanma. Under the deal, AviaSolutions will advise Myanma on its strategic growth plan, covering network development and marketing, as well as airport and infrastructure planning.

Glad to see another airline that is going to operate the 737MAX.

SINGAPORE, Feb. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Nok Airlines Public Company Limited (Nok Air) announced today from the Singapore Airshow a commitment to order eight Next-Generation 737-800s and seven 737 MAX 8s. The commitment, valued at $1.45 billion at list prices, will establish Nok Air as the first airline in Thailand to operate the 737 MAX.
