The neo / MAX marketshare, counting firm orders has been about 60/40 for quite some time now. The neo has 878 more firm orders then the MAX right now.

The A320 also secured enough smaller orders over the last couple of years, it's not that Airbus only books large orders. Boeing also booked some larger orders in the last couple of months, and there will be more to come.

But with the A320 ceo production slots being as good as sold out and with plenty of 737 NG production slots available there will be more smaller orders for the 737 in the near future. Boeing will sell the end of the line 737 NG production slots with a discount. Which has attracted big customers like Ryanair but also smaller airlines (like LAM) that can pick up some brand new planes for a good price.

A320 is still years ahead in terms of technology in my humble opinion. Even with MAX coming, i dont think Boeing would tweak much the flight deck as to maintain common type rating with the NG.

Actually, the 737 MAX will have a new flight deck. It's an upgrade of the 737 NG flight deck that will be very similar to the 787 flight deck.

It's more similar to the NG rather than the 787.

1. Master Caution panel, Mode Control Panel are unchanged from the NG.

2. Warning lights are unchanged. Just being situated slightly offset than presently on the NG.

3. Standby instument are now being put to the center between 2 MFD instead on the captain's side compared to the NG.

4. Landing gear lever looks smaller, finally no more OFF position. On the Jurassic till NG, the 737 gear lever have 3 positions. Down, OFF, up. You have to put the lever in OFF position whilst after take off procedure.

5. Autobrakes, Weather Radar control panel, Hydraulic pressure indicator are now on the lower side of panel below landing gear lever. In the NG, the lower Display unit occupies the panel.

6. Throttle, speed brake, flaps, parking brake, engine start levers and trim wheel are completely unchanged since Jurassic series.

7. Finally the FMC is still traditional FMC with slight upgrades and modifications from Classic series aircraft.

The only similarities with the 787 are the PD and MFD. The screens are bigger, they cram up all info and decided that lower DU are no longer needed.

I think the seats is unchanged too. No electric seat control like the 787, 777, 747 you name it.

It's still a serious upgrade.

And Boeing also claims that it has cross-model commonality, something that the A320 already has with the other Airbus models.

Nah, i dont think so. Display upgrade is merely reorganising things around for optimum use of space.

As long as the FMC stays the same, it will very much be the same aicraft in terms of flight deck.

I suspect Boeing bow to main customers pressure to keep cockpit commonality in order to minimize transition training costs. The earlier version of 734 has analog cockpit because US Airways wanted their crew to fly both Jurassic and Classic aircraft.

I see the same thing to happen when we transition from NG to MAX in few years time.

787 on the other hand is completely new aircraft so Boeing is free to design, upgrade and apply the best technology to the aircraft.

The only true CCQ aircraft in Boeing products is the 757 and 767. However, the latter is nearing its production end-of-life too.

If Boeing wants to be really innovative maybe they should ignore customers call for cockpit commonality and design a completely new cockpit similar to 787. But as customers are king, i dont see this happening.

I believe some of u are looking for this.

It's kind of mediocrely done. Considering it's done by SIA Group, it really disappoints me.

Maybe irrelevant but I have Flight Simulator on my computer and the plane I use most of the time is a Boeing 737...just perfect...

.......also read in today’s paper that China is developing a single aisle passenger jet...but finding it a harder job than expected ?
