Boeing has announced a commitment for an order of 50 737s, a mix of NGs and MAXs for a new Chinese LCC called "9 Air".

Quote:
Boeing Statement on 9 Air’s Commitment to Purchase 50 737s

SEATTLE, May 13, 2014 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] is pleased that 9 Air has committed to 50 Boeing 737s, including Next-Generation 737s and 737 MAXs. The airline intends to introduce the world’s best-selling, 737 family of airplanes into its fleet as it prepares to launch revenue service later this year.

“We are honored to welcome 9 Air as Boeing’s newest customer,” said Ihssane Mounir, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Northeast Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “The success of Boeing’s market-leading 737 family of airplanes has proven to be a winning formula for low-cost carriers around the world. I am confident that this success will be replicated with 9 Air’s low-cost business model.”

The order will be posted as such to Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website once all contingencies are cleared.

Based in Guangzhou, 9 Air is China’s newest low-cost airline and is also a subsidiary of Juneyao Airlines. With this commitment, 9 Air is poised to become another all-Boeing operator in China. The new low-cost carrier plans to launch domestic services to meet growing air traffic demand in China.

I can't find much on 9 Air on the internet, other then what's in already in the press release. JuneYao Airlines is a all A320 domestic carrier from Shanghai that had applied for approval to set up a LCC in Guangzhou in November 2013.

They must haven gotten the permission to start the airline, now they just need the permission to firm up the order. Boeing had a similar statement on the Shandong Airlines order last month that was firmed up quickly as an order for an Unidentified Customer. If this one goes at the same pace, which is expected since the airline wants to start later this year we could see it on the Boeing order book in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, and it still looks as good as it did the day it came out of the factory, if not better.

The MAX has reached the 2,000.
Quote:
Boeing 737 MAX Surpasses 2,000 Orders

RENTON, Wash., May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] celebrated a milestone achievement today on the 737 MAX program, surpassing the 2000th order for the super-efficient single-aisle airplane. With the addition of 30 orders from unidentified customers this week, the 737 MAX now has a total of 2,010 orders from 39 customers worldwide, valued at $209 billion at list prices. The 737 MAX also has commitments for more than 250 additional airplanes.

The 737 MAX has reached 2,000 orders faster than any other Boeing airplane in history. This unprecedented demand is fueled by air traffic growth and the need for more fuel-efficient airplanes.

"Two thousand orders at this stage in the program is a remarkable achievement," said Keith Leverkuhn, vice president and general manager, 737 MAX Program, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Since its first order, the 737 MAX has received more than 50 percent of the new orders versus its direct competition, proving the value this airplane offers to our customers."

A broad base of elite customers has opted for the 737 MAX's superior fuel efficiency, operating economics and advanced interior design for their single-aisle fleets.

"The 737 MAX provides the best-in class combination of fuel-efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort that our airline clients need to compete in the future," said Steven Udvar-Hazy, chairman and CEO, Air Lease Corporation.

"We have a lot of faith in Boeing and the 737 MAX, especially since this will be the narrowbody aircraft of the future for United Airlines," said United Airlines Vice President of Fleet Ron Baur.

"The 737 MAX will help us lead the way with a modern and safe fleet and help us sustain our competitive advantage," said Paulo Kakinoff, CEO, GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes S.A. "It will give our airline great fuel efficiency and low costs, and will give our passengers a fantastic experience."

"The 737 MAX offers our customers a new engine and more," said Leverkuhn.

"In addition to the latest technology LEAP-1B engines from CFM International, the MAX combines advanced aerodynamics including the Advanced Technology winglets, 787-style large screen flight deck displays and the passenger preferred Boeing Sky Interior to give customers an airplane that will enhance their fleets for decades to come."

The 737 MAX will be 14 percent more fuel-efficient than today's most efficient Next-Generation 737s – and 20 percent better than the original Next-Generation 737s when they first entered service. The 737 is more fuel efficient than the A320 today and will be more fuel efficient than the A320neo tomorrow. Airlines operating the 737 MAX will see an 8 percent operating cost per seat advantage over the A320neo.

On track to begin final assembly in mid-2015, the 737 MAX will fly in 2016 and deliver to launch customer Southwest Airlines in the third quarter of 2017.
http://boeing.mediaroom.com/2014-05-...s-2-000-Orders

The order for 30 MAXs probably comes from 9 Air, which was announced last week as a commitment. We'll know Thursday if there will be an order booked for 50 737s. It could also be another order of course, Xiamen Airlines for example. Then the 9 Air order will still be part of the 250 commitments. A large part of these commitments will be from China anyway, it could be an order bonanza if the CAAC get the permission to firm up all their orders for the various airlines that fall under that organisation.

ps. don't take all the statements in the press release to serious, there's a fair bit of marketing rhetoric going on.

The Nok Air order that was announced at the Singapore Airshow earlier this year has been firmed up.

Quote:
Boeing, Nok Air Finalize Order for 737 MAXs, Next-Generation 737s

BANGKOK, May 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Nok Airlines Public Company Limited (Nok Air) finalized an order today for eight Next-Generation 737-800s and seven 737 MAX 8s. Nok Air also announced that it intends to convert one of the 737-800s into a 737 MAX at a later date.

"The 737 is the backbone of our fleet and has fueled our growth over the past 10 years," said Patee Sarasin, CEO of Nok Air. "This order is a key part of our disciplined fleet strategy. These 737s ensure that Nok continues to operate the most reliable and fuel-efficient aircraft on the market today and in the future."

The order, first announced as a commitment at the Singapore Air Show in February, is valued at $1.45 billion at list prices and will establish Nok Air as the first airline in Thailand to operate the 737 MAX. While Nok Air currently operates a fleet of 15 Next-Generation 737s, this marks the airline's first direct order with Boeing.

The 737 MAX now has 2,017 orders from 40 customers.
