Boeing booked 75 new 737 orders last week

http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

Nok Air: 15x (8x NG, 7x MAX) (see above)
Unidentified: 50x (20x NG, 30x MAX) (probably 9 Air, see my post on May 14th)
Eastern Air: 10x 737-800

The last one is a American start up airline which resurrects the old Eastern Airlines brand. The original airline that operated nationwide between 1926 and 1991 closed down after it entered bankruptcy in 1989. In the meantime there have been several fruitless attempts to resurrect the airline. Now it's going to be interesting to see how this one comes along. At least they have the capital to buy 10 737-800s and also buy purchase rights for 10 737 MAX 8 planes.

astern Air Lines Group Announces Boeing 737 Next Generation Aircraft Order

MIAMI, Fla., May 15, 2014 -- Eastern Air Lines Group, Inc., (“Eastern”) has signed an initial order and placed deposits with the Boeing Company for ten (10) firm Next Generation 737-800 aircraft and purchase rights for ten (10) Boeing MAX 8 aircraft.

“Eastern is extremely honored and privileged to be in business with Boeing once again. Eastern’s strong relation*ship with Boeing dates back to the 1930’s, and later Eastern was the first airline to order and operate both the Boeing 727 and 757 aircraft. We will now proudly have the Boeing 737 Next Generation, and eventually the MAX aircraft, as our fleet standard,” said Edward J. Wegel, Eastern’s President and CEO.

os gemeos graffitis boeing 737 for team brazil's FIFA world cup travel

brazilian artist twins os gemeos have recently painted on an extraordinary scale, tagging the entire facade of a boeing 737, which will transport the brazilian national football team from city to city during the quickly approaching 2014 FIFA world cup. dozens of portraits, meant to represent the people of the brazilian culture, are rendered in artists’ signature style: elongated faces, quirky outfits, colorful skin and animated expressions. from the tail to nose and the engines, the jet’s technological details and equipment are covered in the vibrant design, wrapping around the massive structure. with an airplane hangar as an art studio, the duo completed the the plane piece throughout a week-long process, using about 1200 cans of spray.

Nok Air has finalised the $1.45bn order with Boeing for eight Next-Generation 737-800 and seven 737 MAX 8 aircraft, marking the budget carriers' most extensive fleet renewal to date. As part of the deal, the Thai airline is also planning to convert one of its 737-800s into a 737 MAX at a later date.

Okinawa-based JAL Group airline to replace 737-400 fleet with Next-Generation 737-800s

SEATTLE, March 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] and Japan Transocean Air (JTA) announced the airline's selection of 12 Next-Generation 737-800 airplanes. The selection, valued at $1.1 billion at list prices, will mark the start of the airline's fleet renewal program with the new airplanes scheduled to enter into service from 2016. As part of the agreement, JTA will have the flexibility to switch to the 737 MAX family of airplanes.

"JTA has been the wings of Okinawa for almost 50 years," said Manabu Sato, president of Japan Transocean Air and executive officer at Japan Airlines. "The Next-Generation 737-800, with its greater reliability, superior economic and environmental performance, and passenger-pleasing Boeing Sky Interior will allow us to continue to provide the highest levels of service, comfort and convenience to the people of Okinawa."

A member of the Japan Airlines Group, JTA is based in Naha, Okinawa, Japan's southernmost island chain. Currently, the airline operates a fleet of 737-400 airplanes on domestic routes linking Okinawa with major Japanese cities as well as other islands within Okinawa.

"We are honored that JTA has chosen to maintain an all-Boeing fleet of Next-Generation 737s," said John Wojick, Senior Vice President, Global Sales & Marketing, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The Next-Generation 737 will provide JTA with market-leading efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort, allowing JTA to continue to grow and prosper and allowing JTA and Boeing to maintain and build on a vital partnership for many years to come."

JTA's new 737-800s will be powered by CFM56-7 engines manufactured by CFM International, a joint venture between General Electric and SNECMA. The airplanes will be fitted with Boeing's latest Performance Improvement Package (PIP), delivering an additional two percent improvement in fuel efficiency for what is already the most fuel efficient single-aisle airplane. The airplanes will also feature the popular passenger-inspired Boeing Sky Interior, with modern sculpted sidewalls and window reveals, LED lighting that enhances the sense of spaciousness and larger pivoting overhead stowage bins.
Boeing press release:
http://boeing.mediaroom.com/2014-03-...eneration-737s

This order was firmed up today.

http://boeing.mediaroom.com/index.ph...090#assets_117

It's for 12 737-800s, the same number as the undisclosed order last week. The new press release does state that the order was finalized today. It could be just coincidence with 2 similar orders in 2 weeks, it could also be this 1 order. We will know next week when the new orders for this week + the details of the May orders are published.

Boeing's sales chief John Wojick told Reuters that the 737 is now sold out.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/...0OI0GX20140601
Quote:
He said Boeing had now sold enough of the existing 737NG models to ensure a smooth transition to the new 737 MAX.

"We are sold out on the 737NG," he said.

At the same time, he signalled that Boeing could keep raising output after reaching a goal of increasing production of the 737 family as a whole to 47 a month from 42.
This doesn't mean that we won't see any more NG orders, not all the production slots have probably been firmed up yet. And as we regularly see conversions from the NG to the MAX new production slots become available for anyone to take.
