Boeing booked 95 new orders for the 737 last week.

http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

15 737 MAXs from Turkish Airlines and 80 (60 MAX, 20 NG) from an Unidentified Customer. But since China Eastern said that they were to order 80 737s at the end of last week it's not rocket science to figure out that they are behind this one.

Especially since Boeing also tweeted this:

Quote:
New orders this week include 75 for the 737 MAX. Total MAX orders now at 2,098.
https://twitter.com/BoeingAirplanes/...49966978125825

The net order total so far this year for the 737 is now 480, for the 737 MAX it's 335

With these orders the neo vs. MAX market share changes 1% to 56% / 44%. (Although China Eastern also has an outstanding commitment for 70 neo's, if that one is also firmed up it moves back to 57/43 again.)

It is closer to 60% when all remaining MoU's have been taken into account.

http://www.pdxlight.com/neomax.htm

Boeing and Airbus usually have an equal share of MoU's (Boeing had over 200 MoU's a few months ago), it's now up to Airbus to make a similar move.

Boeing said that they had 250 commitments when they reached the 2,000 orders. Now they are at 2,100 orders it's unclear if the last 100 were part of those commitments.

Airbus of course also have enough commitments. And who knows what the market share will be if both A's and B's actual commitments are added up. But in the mean time it's still a fact that the MAX has had strong sales so far this year, closing down the gap with the neo percent by percent.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens at the Farnborough Airshow next month. Has Airbus been saving up new orders to make a big splash at the show? And what has Boeing still up on it's sleeve after all the orders they have already booked this year?

Since this is the 737 thread we could speculate on some possible MAX orders at Farnborough, Ryanair, Copa, AerCap (ILFC)?

A small new order for the 737 NG from Belarus was announced today.

Quote:
Boeing, Belavia Airlines Announce Order for Three Next-Generation 737-800s

MINSK, Belarus, June 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Belarus flag carrier Belavia Airlines have reached an agreement on an order for three Next-Generation 737-800 airplanes. Valued at $272 million at current list prices, this is the first direct purchase of Boeing airplanes for Belavia.

"We are committed to bring the highest levels of comfort and convenience to our customers by continuing to operate the most reliable and fuel-efficient aircraft available today and in the future," said Anatoly Gusarov, director general, Belavia Belarusian Airlines. "The purchase of three Next-Generation 737-800s will make it possible to open new scheduled flights to destinations which currently are unavailable due to the remoteness of the base airport."

Belavia Belarusian Airlines is based in the Minsk International Airport. Belavia serves a network of routes between European cities and the Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as several Middle East destinations. The airline's Boeing fleet currently consists of six 737-500s and seven 737-300s.

Could a 757 replacement lead the away to a real 737 replacement?

Some airlines are beating the drums for a true replacement for the 757. The 737-900 and the A321 don't seem to be cutting it for them.

At the same time Boeing has been updating and rehashing the 50 YO 737 basic design. Given that the 737 and 757 had the same fuselage diameter, could Boeing come up with a new technology (think the technologies used in the 787 ) modular design, that could initially be used to build the 757 replacement, then downscaled to produce a 737 replacement?

Reuters is reporting that the British holiday airline Monarch Airlines is close to placing an order for the Boeing 737.

Boeing nears deal to sell 30 jets to Monarch Air-sources
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/0...0F64IH20140701

The airline is expected to place an A320neo or a 737 MAX order at the Farnborough International Airshow which starts in 2 weeks. As a current A320 operator the neo was the most likely candidate, but if this turns out to be true it's another surprising steal by Boeing.

As always it's good to point out that the media has been wrong on several occasions about airline orders, the "sources" are not always telling the truth. It could even be a tactic to negotiate a better deal with the competitor. We'll know soon enough if it was just another rumor or if it's actually a fact.

I used to really like the 737 but the seats are too damn tight on the aircraft. I noticed this going from an American Airlines MD-80 to a 737-800. I wish they'd make the fuselage a little bit wider but I'm sure that's not gonna happen.

I have no idea. The first half of 2014 has been rather slow overall, especially in the wide-body market. Airbus might be saving orders for Farnborough, though last year they had announced quite a lot orders well before the start of the Paris air show.

Boeing booked another new order for 10 737-800s last week.
http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

They also identified a couple of small orders from earlier this year, although only NG orders.

3x Belavia (it was already placed early June)
1x ALC
4x Alaska Airlines

No MAX orders where identified, maybe we will hear some names at Farnborough.

3 airlines have to wait a bit longer for their delivery.

Train derails, spilling aircraft components into Clark Fork

MISSOULA, Mont. -

Train cars and airplane parts in the Clark Fork River just west of Alberton were an unwelcome surprise for some Clark Fork floaters. Crews worked Friday near the Fish Creek exit, roughly 45 miles west of Missoula to clean up the mess after a train derailed Thursday.

NBC Montana reached out to Montana Rail Link officials who say the train came from Kansas City and was heading to Renton, Washington.
