Boeing, Sriwijaya Air Announce Order for Two Next-Generation 737-900ERs

First all-new aircraft purchase for Indonesia-based airline
Order includes options for additional 20 737s

LE BOURGET, France, June 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Sriwijaya Air today announced an order for two Next-Generation 737-900ER (Extended Range) airplanes during a signing ceremony at the Paris Air Show.

The order, previously attributed to an unidentified customer on the Orders and Deliveries website, marks the first all-new airplane purchase for the Indonesian airline and included a letter of intent to exercise options for up to 20 additional 737 airplanes.

"Today is a historic moment for Sriwijaya Air as we purchase our first new airplanes," said Chandra Lie, president of Sriwijaya Air. "Since our beginning, the 737 has been the backbone of our fleet and with its reliability, efficiency and lower maintenance and operating costs, there was no better choice for us than the 737 as we continue to grow."

Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air is the country's third largest carrier. The airline operates an all-Boeing fleet of 737 airplanes and offers flights to various Indonesian destinations as well as a few international cities.

The options could mean that this is a potential future customer for the MAX.

We know Thursday if Boeing already books this order as unidentified this week. There's also a small possibility that it was already booked previously.

Two aircraft with Scimitar winglets... it is becoming more common that I like seeing it on other aircraft in the future.

I was in the factory a few weeks ago and they are coming along nicely on the wings. The Line is still under construction and we should see the first fuselage (LN 5602) loaded in September.

China Eastern has announced that they have ordered 50 737s.

Quote:
Boeing Co. won an order from China Eastern Airlines Corp. valued at $4.6 billion in list prices for single-aisle jets as Chinese carriers purchase new planes amid surging travel demand.
China Eastern ordered 50 single-aisle 737 aircraft, the Shanghai-based carrier said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange Thursday.

No specification of the type that is being ordered and no press release from Boeing yet. But the list prices suggest that it will be NGs and not MAXs. It's also not yet clear if this is a new order, or if it was already listed as an UFO order.

Now we have to hope that the Chinese economy won't collapse because of the recent stock market troubles. Both Airbus and Boeing would have big problems if all their Chinese orders start to evaporate.
