The Wall Street Journal reports that United and Boeing are very close to announce another 737 order after the order for 40 737-700 which was placed in January.

They don't have the information on the size of the order and which type it will be exactly.

It's a developing story..

Yahoo news now reports it will be an order for another 25 737-700s.

Wonder what kind of incentives Boeing gave to United.

A very low price.

It's even rumored that an upcoming twin aisle order will be linked with this order, simply to offset the how low can you go prices that Boeing offered United. Which could be more 777-300ERs, especially United did also announce just now that they will accelerate the 747 retirements.

It's also being reported before United interest for the 737-700 Boeing was actively trying to encourage the 2 or 3 737-7 MAX customers to convert their orders to the 737-8. But now they have become fully committed to the 737-7 again. Just to have a product that can compete with the larger Embraer E-Jets and the Bombarier C-Series.

There aren't that many 737-700 still on order as well. From the 50 still on Boeing's backlog 40 are from United's January order. But I expect that Boeing still expects that a decent number of the 1,100 737-700s that have been delivered will be replaced by the MAX 7. Next to keeping it as an option to als be able to underbid Bombardier and Embraer in the larger regional range.

The 737-700 is mainly old by western standards. Most were delivered over 10 years back. The big fleets are in the US.

Its like the airlines are replacing some while they still can. The equivalent small a320 never got as much traction as the 700 initially did in the 1990s.

Boeing launches 737-800 converted freighter programme

Boeing intends to convert passenger airplanes into freighter planes, increasing the economic lifespan of the airplane. The company will modify its 737-800 aircraft, which is the first next-generation 737.The first delivery is scheduled in the fourth quarter of next year.

Although large freighters carry high-density cargo on long-range routes, the 737-800BCF will primarily be used to carry express cargo on domestic routes.
The 737-800 BCF can carry 23.9t of cargo with flying routes of 3,690km.

For the 737s. Southwest Airlines (US) has taken 5 737-700s & JetairFly (TuiFly Belgium) has taken 2 737-800s, Eastern Airlines (US) has taken 1 737-800 and Jet2 (UK) has taken 2 737-800s. The other 737 NGs are still stored. From the 737 classics only one has found a new home, Vision Air International from Pakistan took 1 737-300. Most are still stored.

The 737 in the picture is one that has gone to Jet2.

The Transaero goes bankrupt. There is a small airport in France with somewhere.

There are the planes.

Word in the leasing industry is that ex Transaero birds are in tatters, maintenance wise. I think the classics are stored in in Teruel in Spain.
