It is impossible to make Michael completely happy about the number of seats.
Many believe his ultimate goal is to squeeze additional passengers into the 737´s cargo compartment and market it as incomparably cheap "Dungeon class".

And speaking of that, was Ryanair (or another low-cost carrier) the airline that wanted to have "standing room" areas to really put in more passengers on board its planes? I recall hearing that some time back on a radio station from London, in which passengers went in outrage.

He still wants standing room areas in the back of the plane.

And I have no doubt that all those places will be sold out in no time if he actually fits them in his planes. The raging "passengers" on the radio are most likely people that will never travel with Ryanair. There are enough people that will want to stand a couple of hours just to have a 10% cheaper ticket. I actually doubt that any of these raging "passengers" calling in to a radio station are actually people that would fly Ryanair in the 1st place.

Ryanair is the biggest single airline in Europe and is one of the few European airlines that has been making profits for years on end. Everyone can think of Ryanair what they like, but mr. O’Leary is doing something right with this airline.

1. O'Leary also proposed having one man cockpits which I seriously detest and has made me lose a lot of respect for the guy.

2. People are probably paid to say that they'd use the standing room only on the radio.

3. That photo of him is bound to appear in my nightmares!

Well, maybe you have to be a little bit crazy to survive in the tough airline business.

Think a lot of these are just media PR gimmicks. These planes are not certified for what he wants and he won't be able to make it happen.

A moderate new order for 12 737-800s to be leased to Transaero.
Quote:
Boeing and Sberbank Announce Order for 12 737-800s

WASHINGTON, April 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA), Sberbank of Russia and its wholly owned subsidiary, Sberbank Leasing, have reached an agreement on an order for 12 Next-Generation 737-800s. The airplanes are intended for operational leasing under Sberbank's contract with Transaero, one of Sberbank's key corporate customers.
full press release:
http://boeing.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=2639

This is probably the new order for 12 737s booked for an Unidentified Customer in Boeing most recent order update.
http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

ANA also placed an order for 4 extra 737-800s.

Not a new order but Canada's Air Transat will also start to fly the 737 again.

Quote:
Air Transat New Planes: Carrier To Add Boeing 737 To Its Fleet

Transat (TSX:TRZ.B) said five leased narrow-body aircraft will be added to the fleet on a permanent basis, while six others secured possibly from foreign airlines will be used on a seasonal basis in winter when travel from Canada to sun destinations is high.

They currently have a fleet of 21 Airbus A310 and A330s. In the late 1990s they used 2 737-400s, also on a seasonal basis sharing the planes with the now defunct Belgian airline Virgin Express.

I don't think it's too big: the nose of the B737 seems to be proportional to the body of the aircraft, and it looks pleasant to me.

This is a low flight video, of the last flight of a 737-200 for Aerolineas Argentinas in 2009. Funny fact, this plane touched down at 7:37pm

A new MAX order is on the way, this time from Turkish Airlines. They recently also announced an order for the A320neo, so they keep "loyal" to both manufactures.
Quote:
Boeing Statement on Turkish Airlines' Commitment to Order 50 737 MAXs and 20 Next-Generation 737s

SEATTLE, April 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) is delighted that Turkish Airlines has committed to order 40 737 MAX 8s, 10 737 MAX 9s and 20 Next-Generation 737-800 airplanes, valued at $6.9 billion at list prices. The agreement also includes options for an additional 25 737 MAX 8s.

Boeing looks forward to working with Turkish Airlines to finalize the order. When finalized, the agreement will be posted to the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website as a firm order.

The 1st 737-900ER for the new Indonesian airline Batik Air, it's Lion Air's full-service airline that aims to compete with Garuda on long haul routes. But they won't go full long haul until the receive the 787s that Lion Air has ordered for Batik Air.

That could be true, but it's also possible that both airlines will get 787s. Lion Air did said last year that it was looking into ordering more 787s, with their expansion plans anything is possible.

thanks for sharing here.

1st Lion Group Order 5 787 for ID(Batik Air), then Lion Group made OD(Malindo) and as I know Lion Group made another order for OD. but anything would happen in Lion Group

for Batik, Malindo, & Lion 737 it will be use Lion Order.. as I heard before @ Indonesian Thread this year Lion will only add 4new A/c. last year Lion has 24new 737NG (738&739) deliveries , Malindo will add more A/c this year for opening new routes in Malaysia, and for Batik if i'm not wrong will have 4 or 6 A/c at the end of 2013.

So question: with Lion Airlines having three different airlines under one roof (Lion Air, Malindo Air, and now Batik), which of those three will operate regional and international routes in the long-term? If so, will it (or those) operate mostly B737-900ERs, and how far do you think will those aircraft go in terms of distance from their hub/s? On top of that, will Lion Air remain operating its B744s in the long run, and what would be the possibility of it operating to, say, Australia or Northeast Asia?

Lion Group have 4 different airlines under one roof. Lion Air(JT), Wings Air(IW), Malindo(OD), & Batik Air(ID).

JT= not a pure LCC in Indonesia(CGK as a Main Hub)
IW= props carrier airlines for helping JT, operate ATR's
OD= Malaysian Hybrid's carrier(KUL as a Main Hub)
ID= Full service carrier for compete with Garuda Indonesia(GA) Indonesia's flag carrier.(CGK as a Main Hub)

1st time JT take 744 for serve hajj flight, but somehow JT can't serve hajj flight from Indonesia. but for now JT 744 only serve daily flight CGK-JED as I know.

for OD they have planning to flight to several cities in India, China, and Australia.

and for 200+ airbus order it will deliveries to Lion Group Leasing Company in Singapore.

That setup seems to be pretty complicated. I wonder, though: why is it that operations for Lion Air and Wings Air are split when the only split is that one uses jet aircraft, the other ATRs? I mean, if they are related companies, can the two be combined and become a unified carrier, Lion Air?

Plus, how's the group's expansion to SE Asia coming along? It looks like no Indonesian carrier has served MNL for a long time (Sriwajaya Air, though, operated Manado—Davao before on a B737), and I wonder if either GA or JT will operate to Manila soon since Philippine Airlines operates MNL-CGK 11x weekly now, on top of 3x weekly MNL-DPS.
