No, you are wrong.
They have to remove all test wiring and bring up frame to certification standard - they will strip off entire cabin.

Just the first Max test frame is back at Renton undergoing rework for southwest.

The Wings for the first 737-9 Max are almost completed.

Indeed. All the military C-40's have them as well as some BBJ's. It's an option on all 737's.

Why do some airlines like China Eastern still have the old school winglets and not the new ones like Southwest?

The old ones are the factory standard, the new ones are after market additions sold by Aviation Partners. Any airline is free to buy these new split scimitar winglets. They will calculate the net profit after the costs of buying and installing them. Apparently the net gain is not big enough that all airlines are buying them.

ps.
All 737 MAX will have the Boeing version of the new split scimitar winglets straight away from the factory. It's a different version than the Aviation Partners winglet that is now being installed on the 737 NGs.

Last year United's orders for 737-700s were big news. It was rumored that they would be paying bottom prices for these planes as they were last of the line 737 NGs. Boeing was glad to sell them to bridge the gap between the NG and the MAX production.

But now United is converting 65 737-700 into 4 737-800s and 61 737 MAX planes.

United Sets Course To Be Best Airline For Employees, Customers, and Investors

Quote:
The company announced a modification to its narrowbody order book. The company is converting its original order for 65 737-700 aircraft into 4 737-800 aircraft to be delivered in 2017 while the remaining 61 will be converted into orders for 737 MAX aircraft, with delivery dates to be determined. These changes will allow United to take advantage of the superior fuel efficiency of the MAX aircraft while also reducing capital expenditures by approximately $1.6 billion through 2018.
http://newsroom.united.com/2016-11-1...-and-Investors

It's unlikely that they will get the same discounts for the MAX, but as the MAX will be delivered later it will still give them more financial room in the next couple of years. Too bad they don't give the version of the MAX they will now be getting on top of their previous order for 100 737 MAX-9.

With the fast introduction of the MAX it will also be no problem for Boeing to replace these last of the line 737-700 NG delivery slots with MAX for other customers.

I thought it a highly tactical discount to keep Bombardier out last year. The Maxes will be delivered a lot later than the 700s would have been, is this perhaps a large hidden delivery deferral as well, dressed up as a new order????

That tactical discount could now turn out just tactical without the discount part.

United won't get the CSeries, and instead of delivering low margin 737-700s Boeing can book another significant 737 MAX order.

United might also be glad that they didn't order the CSeries. If they had ordered it they probably would not have been able to deffer them as easily as they can do now with this conversion.

As the statement makes very clear, it is a deferral "MAX delivery slots to be determined". And they don't bring it as a new order. Nothing is hidden, unless the 737 MAX version ordered turns out to be the not yet launched -10 version. But that's just speculation from my side.

Boeing shares are down after this announcement, the stock market clearly doesn't know much about the specifics of the 737 production. They just see deferral and start to run. In other words, it's a good moment for some quick profit, the shares will bounce back again in no time.

Could this have any thing to do with Warren Buffet investing in the three majors yesterday? He would definitely want to invest in a lean, mean money making airline.
