Norwegian Plans

http://www.travelweekly.co.uk/articl...and-manchester

Persistent rumour that the very first 737 MAX service will be ex ORK In June and will be a transatlantic service, they will not use Logan or JFK either.

The second route will be ex SNN and Edinburgh will then have 2 based a/c by next "summer" according to that article with 2 also likely in MAN as well. The article covers the first 6 Max deliveries to Norwegian.

I don't think SW get theirs till August.

Earlier today someone opened up a thread with a rumor that Boeing will launch the 737 MAX-10 before Christmas. The thread was closed soon after opening as it didn't contain any sources. But according to the thread starter the 737 MAX-10 will be a tid bit longer then the A321, it will have 4 exit doors per side, longer landing gear and wings that are based on the 737 P-8 Poseidon with the raked wingtips (like the 787) instead split scimitar blended wingtips from the current MAX designs.

We are going to see in the next couple of weeks if this rumor turns out to be true. If it is true it might directly be with a launch customer. Recently United said that they would convert their 737-700 order to the MAX, but that conversion has not yet been made on Boeing's order book (updated up to 30 November). I suspect, not based on any factual evidence, that United will convert their -700 to this new longest version of the 737 MAX. But again, we have to wait and see if any of this turns out to be true.

IranAir signs a deal for 80 airplanes (50 737's & 30 777's)

IranAir said it signed a deal on Sunday to buy 80 passenger planes from U.S. aircraft maker Boeing (BA.N), state news agency IRNA reported, in the biggest U.S.-Iran deal since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

The agency quoted Farhad Parvaresh, the chairman of Iran's flag carrier, as saying that the 10-year deal included 50 Boeing 737 aircraft and 30 777 planes.

Boeing said in June it had signed a tentative agreement to sell 100 jets to IranAir after Iranian statements about the deal.

That's some jump. A 2 class united 737-700 would have maybe 120 seats while the -10 would come in at 200 seats in 2 classes more like. So what will United do to service its thinner routes where the -700 does a great job esp as it looks like the Max 7 is dead on arrival there being so few orders.

Boeing spent much of the last 2 years bug squashing nascent competition in the 120 seat space as they may well have no market offering below 150 seats (2 class) by the end of the decade when the 700 is out of production. I'd see Boeing negotiating a 'save the Max 7' deal with United instead. Either the big 5 Boeing 737 carriers in the States all pile into the Max 7 or nobody will.

Uinted has already said that they won't convert to the 737-7.

They said that they will convert away from the 737-700 because they don't need the plane. Expecting to use the current 737-700s and A319s longer then in their previous fleet planning, also use the regionals more.

The 737 MAX-10 would come in to replace a more urgent need in their fleet, which is the replacement of the 757s and the 767s for which the MAX-9 might be a tad bit too small to do those replacements on it's own.

With the upgrade of the 737-7 earlier this year there's no reason to believe that it's dead on arrival. It will never be the most popular model in the MAX line-up, but Boeing will go ahead with it. Just like Airbus with the 59 orders for the A319neo.

Was this the original 737-7 or the slightly bigger one announced at Farnborough by agreement with launch customer SW??? The one that got no 'new' sales since??

There's only 1 737-7 right now, and that's the larger version then the original which was launched earlier this year.

It got a Chinese sale at Farnborough, and just last week Boeing booked it's first 737-7 BBJ order. As Boeing has not yet specified it's MAX order into the different version it's impossible to tell how many orders they have booked for every single version. Even though the majority will be for the -8, there might still be more -7's on order then the 60 something that are known.

Boeing off loaded the first 737-9 Max fuselage last night at Renton. They tweeted they were expecting a special fuselage last night. I wasn't able to get there for pictures.

I wish the entire MAX family had the raked wingtips. I thought after 787 and 747-8 this type of wing would be the pattern from now on. It's much more pleasing to the eyes in my opinion. But boeing engineers must surely have concluded the blended wingtips are more profitable cause that's what really matters and I'm fine with it.

Is this 737-7 order the one United made after Boeing offered them a huge discount on the planes to avoid a CSeries order by United? If they choose to convert to the MAX-10, wouldn't it be a new chance to Bombardier? Planes of the size of the 737-7 and A319 are still needed on United's fleet. Besides that, wouldn't it be awkward if United converted their 737-7 order to the MAX-10 after the smoking deal Boeing offered them?

The 737-700 deal was the one that was reported to have very steep discounts. But from the reports on the conversion / deferral it already became clear that the discounts were not as big as was reported in the media.

The move was made by a new management at United, the main reason was to save on capital expenditure. So don't expect any new C-Series order in the near future, but it's a possibility that will still go for it. But it's also possible that United will still place a 737-7 order at some future point in time. In the mean time the current 737-700s and A319 will stay longer in the fleet.

btw, the conversion has not been booked by Boeing for now.

Both of the -700 'CS Killer' deals (United and American I think too or SW) were reportedly at $25m a frame or so around deal time.

N8514F (LN6199) for Southwest will be delayed after a mishap during the wifi install. The subcontractor at ATS miss drilled the holes and the aircraft is now undergoing a partial re-skin plus painting.
