If the Tarom deal was happening Boeing would have known about that before anyone else and I can't see them wasting their time and money painting it in Pegasus colors only to have to strip it all off again a few days later to repaint it for Tarom.

No additional info here so we'll just have to wait and see.

Wouldn't be the first time this has happened. Boeing needs a 6-8 week lead time for a livery change. There is a 9 Air that was painted that is getting repainted in another livery per Huy. But I haven't seen anything about that.

True. But usually when the frame is in limbo like that it gets painted white until they get all the ducks lined up for the new customer livery.

There have been rumors flying around for those 9 Air's for a while now. I've heard a number of them but there's thus far been no change on internal systems. Last I heard was the later one was being sold at delivery to Silk Road Leasing, but then that was the plan for one of their earlier ones as well yet they took delivery of it themselves in the end.

Too much speculation on a lot of frames for my comfort level. Even when they show on internal docs they have a habit of coming back to bite you on your ass with last minute changes. I've fallen foul of it myself from being too eager to get the "hot scoop" out there before anyone else! Nowadays I tend to stick to posting the original plan unless I see physical evidence of it being something different. Tends to generally work out okay for me.

Azerbaijan-based airline Silk Way has placed a $1.1bn order to purchase ten 737 MAX 8 aircraft.Based on current list prices from Boeing, the order is expected to help the airline to expand its global and regional presence.

The airline currently has a fleet of seven Boeing airplanes, including two 767-300 freighters, three 747-400 freighters and three 747-8 freighter aircraft.

Any ideas about the TAROM livery? Just the plain old blue text? The full blue concept would look really nice, but I don't think they'll do it.

Malindo is part of Lion Air is it not. Asian Launch Customer and Launch Operator means Norwegian are relegated to European Launch Operator for the Max.

The 1st issue with the MAX has come to the surface, just weeks for the 1st delivery.

Boeing grounds 737 MAX test planes over quality issue with engine
Quote:
Weeks away from the first delivery of its new 737 MAX airliner, Boeing on Wednesday grounded its fleet of test planes because of a quality problem with the new LEAP engine.

Engine maker CFM International has informed Boeing of “a potential manufacturing quality escape with low pressure turbine discs (LPT)” in the engines already delivered, Boeing said.

Boeing said the first MAX delivery, to Malaysian carrier Malindo Air, will nevertheless go ahead this month, which means the inspections must have cleared at least a couple of engines to fly.

The Boeing 737 Max has been temporarily grounded. The wording implies both Max 8 and Max 9.

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-39879962

Quote:
Boeing says it was notified last week of a potential issue involving turbine engine discs manufactured by a supplier to CFM International.
CFM is the joint venture between US firm General Electric (GE) and French-based Safran - the companies making the engines for the 737 Max fleet.
Boeing says it has not experienced any problems with the discs during more than 2,000 hours of testing.
"Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to temporarily suspend MAX flights," it told the BBC. "The step is consistent with our priority focus on safety for all who use and fly our products."
Best delay EIS by a few weeks to fit engines with the right disks installed than risk faults in revenue service that will affect final ETOPS certification in 2018.

No news yet on delivery delays and on the precise issue that CFM have discovered.

The grounding is no reason for Boeing to not announce new orders.

And for a change it's an order specifically for the MAX 9. The firm part are 8 MAX 9s for Primera Air who are also looking to use them on Transatlantic flights like the other Scandinavian airline Norwegian Air Shuttle.

Boeing, Primera Air Announce Order for Up to 20 737 MAX 9s

Quote:
Scandinavian low-cost airline to utilize airplane to open new transatlantic routes

SEATTLE, May 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Primera Air today announced an order for eight 737 MAX 9 airplanes, valued at more than $950 million at list prices. The agreement also includes purchase rights for four additional 737 MAX 9s and a lease agreement for eight more airplanes from Air Lease Corporation.

The 737 MAX 9 will form the backbone of the low-cost airline's future as it seeks to commence flights between Europe and North America. Primera Air plans to use the MAX 9's auxiliary fuel tanks to lower trip costs and maximize the range to accommodate flights connecting Europe to the east coast of the U.S.

The faulty parts that temporarily grounded the MAX series are not in the Airbus variants which are rather larger engines in form factor.

https://www.flightglobal.com/news/ar...-737-m-437076/

Quote:
Though sharing a common overall architecture, the Leap-1A powering the A320neo family uses a different part design for the low pressure turbine disc than the Leap-1B engine powering the 737 Max, CFM says.

The LPT disc itself for the Leap-1A also is made by a different supplier than the same part for the Leap-1B, says the joint venture of GE Aviation and Snecma.

Boeing resumed MAX flights yesterday, of course only with frames that were checked to not have the faulty part in the engine.
