Micko has folded. This should....unless Micko then does something really stupid...stop the losses of pilots and the atrophication of Ryanairs service levels.

https://www.rte.ie/news/2017/1005/910127-ryanair-pay/

Quote:
Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary has said pilots' pay at the airline will be benchmarked against competitors as part of a number of changes to rostering and career development.

In a letter to Ryanair pilots, Mr O'Leary said the company would match and exceed the pay offered by other 737 aircraft operator airlines at any base where the Ryanair rate for pilots was lower.
Of course Ryanair fly out of every ex military airbase in Europe that is chancing its arm as an Airport. Therefore there is NO "other 737 aircraft operator" at those bases EXCEPT Ryanair.

There is virtually no other 737 operator based at London Stansted, quite a large airport, as Ryanair have 80% of seats there.

The LCA market in Europe is dominated by Ryanair on one side and A320 operators Wizz, Vueling and Easyjet on the other side.

So this announcement is directed primarily at far Western Europe where Norwegian is Launching 737 Max services across the Atlantic as MAX a/c steadily arrive and also at Jet2 in the ex UK Club Med market.

And it is especially targeted on Dublin where Norwegian are recruiting heavily right now.

Will it result in a 737 pilot getting a direct contract, holiday pay, sick pay, a pension scheme and proper guaranteed woking hours in Poland or in Italy or in Germany where Ryanair are pretty much the only 737 operator in most airports. No it surely will not.

Quote:
Mr O'Leary said Ryanair's pilots were the best in the business, worked hard, were well trained and were extremely professional.
That's a change from saying they had a 'nice easy job' a fortnight ago and that the planes as good as flew themselves. It is the closest thing to an apology that you will ever see from Micko.

I had a chance to watch a couple of videos of the Southwest 737 MAX 8 entering service. The plane's CFM International LEAP-1B engines sound like a reduced-sized version of the GEnx engines from the Boeing 787.

Qantas has said that right now the MAX is the front runner for the replacement of the 737NGs in their fleet, but an order is still some years out.

Boeing lands a $5.65 billion 777-300(ER), 737 MAX order from China Southern

MIAMI — Guangzhou-based China Southern Airlines has finalized a deal to purchase eight Boeing 777-300(ER)s and 30 737 MAX 8, worth $5.65 billion.

This deal joins an already-existing order of 12 787-9 Dreamliners, valued at $3.2 billion, which was formalized 12 months ago. Boeing plans to begin delivering these Dreamliners between 2018 and 2020.

The Chinese carrier also signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for 20 A350-900s earlier in April, valued at $6 billion. The airline operates one of the largest Airbus fleets in the world with more than 300 Airbus aircraft in service, comprising the A320 Family, the A330 Family, and five A380s.

Considered Asia’s largest airline by size, China Southern boasts a massive fleet of 546 aircraft. Currently, the airline operates 10 Boeing 777-300(ER) and 180 737-700/800. The new 777s and 737 MAX 8s are expected join the fleet between 2019 and 2020.

How many orders Boeing need to get IF they want to maintain current production rate for the 777 before the X comes?

This is the 737 thread but the 777 rate has already slowed down to 5 per month, which will include the 777X prototypes and early production frames.

Somebody at Boeing made a mistake. The 737 MAX was added to the Qantas customer page, including the picture of a MAX in the current Qantas livery. This before a Qantas MAX order is even announced.

Australian Business Traveller spotted this and tweeted this in to the world. Boeing has now removed the page on their website and the image.

"Boeing website teases with 737MAX in Qantas livery – perhaps counting single-aisle customers before they’re hatched?"

The Polish Government's first of three 737 frames is the former 9 Air frame.

WestJet revised their MAX order.

https://www.westjet.com/assets/wj-we...-Q3-Report.pdf
(page 22)

They converted 7 737-9s with delivery slots in 2018 and 2019 to 737-7 & 8s. And converted 7 737-8 delivery slots in 2022-2025 to the 737-10 and ordered 5 more 737-10s.

This makes WestJet another 737-10 customer, but no more 737-9s for them.
