Brazil’s Azul becomes the E195-E2 Launch Operator

São José dos Campos, Brazil, March 9, 2017 – Embraer announced today that Azul Brazilian Airlines, the largest operator of the E195s current-generation in the world, will be the launch operator of the E195-E2. Azul’s contract with Embraer is for up to 50 aircraft, being 30 firm orders and 20 purchase rights.

Currently, the Brazilian airline has a total of 73 E-Jets in service. The E195-E2s will be configured by Azul in a comfortable single-class layout with 130 seats and the aircraft will entry into service with the airline in the first half of 2019.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, January 19, 2017 – Airlink, Southern Africa’s largest independent regional airline, is joining the E-Jet operator’s family. The airline is acquiring five E-Jets - three E170s and two E190s, from ECC Leasing, a wholly-owned Embraer subsidiary. Airlink will start to receive the aircraft in the first half of 2017.

Airlink already operates a large fleet of ERJ aircraft – last December, the airline started to add 11 further ERJ 140 jets to its fleet. By the end of the fourth quarter of 2017, the airline will be operating 30 ERJs, comprising all three types - ERJ 135, ERJ 140 and the ERJ 145.

Rodger Foster, CEO of Airlink, said, “This is the beginning of the implementation of a well planned growth and modernization strategy for Airlink that includes replacing our current fleet of Avro RJ85s over the next three years. The strategy calls for a total of 13 E-Jets, and we are in the process of sourcing the balance of the fleet requirement – an additional 8 E190s – from the market. The unique performance characteristics of the E-Jet family will enable Airlink to operate within the challenging environment of the region, including short field and “hot and high” operations, while managing capacity and providing for growth.”

Foster continued, “the E190’s ETOPS (Extended Twin Engine Operations) capability and range presents Airlink with new market opportunities to address isolated destinations that were previously beyond our reach and in some instances that have never enjoyed the privilege of reliable scheduled air services. Embraer has proven to be an excellent partner for Airlink on our ERJ fleet, and we look forward to the continuation of superb customer support as we enter a new chapter of growth with the E-Jets.”

If anyone expect this to go anywhere they are delusional.

Brazilian people pay 1k€ for PlayStation because of protectionism and then they will sell one of their crown jewels.

This might end up exactly as the Airbus - Bombardier deal with the C-Series with Boeing taking only a stake in the E-Jet E2 program and not buy Embraer as a whole. With the deal including a technology transfer and using each others sales teams for both the E-Jet and Boeing products.

The Federal Government has a golden option to veto such sale to Boeing and will likely use it out of national sovereignty principles.

Airbus can exercise a buyout of C-series in 2020 or so. Brazil will never permit that.

But then the US could impose a 300 percent levy.

LOT Polish Airlines has good partnership with Embraer, so if they keep growing and making money like last two years then I wouldn't be suprised to see an order or leasing of new E2-195 in the future to replace their E-175 and E-195.

BTW LOT is in talks to lease 6 E-195 in 2018.

Boeing’s bid to buy Embraer could see Brazilian engineers work on the 797

According to people involved with the history, Boeing took serious looks alternately at Embraer and at its Canadian rival Bombardier over the past 18 years. Its renewed move on Embraer could herald the acquisition of engineering talent to work on its next new jet, the 797.
