I hope this one actually comes to fruition. It's about time Toronto gets its supertall.

I don't love the design for the tallest building, are these just massing models, or is this the planned design ?

I don't think a round tower is good for Toronto. A nice box is good. Btw a lot of floors.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tallest is still a massing model. Its not in the style of the architect of this complex to design a building that basic. (Hariri Pontarini, the same architect of the Massey Tower)

There's a few potential ones in the works. Foster may be designing twin supertalls for Toronto and Gehry is proposing three towers that are 250 +. Maybe he'll up the height.

Supertalls NOT Super Ugly Developments

I love the idea of a Toronto filled with Supertalls; however, I abhor the idea of unrestrained development. Toronto MUST establish an Architecture Committee composed of Toronto's top architects and, if possible, some international ones like Gehry, Libeskind, Alsop, etc to review and approve architectural plans. We have enough ugly skyscrapers. Toronto needs ICONIC buildings!

There is a design review panel that proposals have to submit their plans to. A few of their guidelines about shadowing and view planes are plain silly, but overall they do a decent job.

Iconic buildings? That will depend on Torontonians. If we demand better designs, developers will build them. If we buy whatever they spit out, they'll continue to spit out mediocre designs.

That said, design has continually gotten better over the past few years. The proposals coming out in 2012 were far better than what we used to get.

Please build a supertall, but build it in the CBD.
OK, OK, build this AND some supertalls downtown.

This is definitely something I would love to see be built; along with Oxford Place, it would definitely change the Toronto skyline... Plus it can get rid of us having the dubious title of most developed nation without a bloody supertall

According to UrbanToronto, the plans have changed.

1 Yonge will consist of 6 buildings (not 5 buildings) with the tallest at 88 stories (no longer 98 stories).

The Toronto Star building would see additional floors added, while a new 40 storey office building would be built on site. A new 70 storey tower with hotel component has been added as the 6th building.

The remainder of the towers heights are as follows: 75, 80, 80, and 88 storeys.

So we have 88s, 2x80s, 75s, 70s and 40s.

Some new renderings of the base courtesy of UT and Architect Hariri Pontarini.

This looks fantastic. This start of Yonge Street, probably Toronto's most iconic street, has always looked dreary and dead. This project would finally bring some vitality to an area that desperately needs it.

I like the look of that base as well. Hopefully FCP will still be largely visible if these are built.
