They need to bring some of these architects to Iran. Unfortunately the previous Pres. Ahmadi (you remember him) thought it a good idea to take a page out of the commie style and started mass producing these blocks throughout the country. Only to force normal housing to jump in price.

Very interesting topic!

Here are other examples from France. What is great is that these are not single architectural face-lifts, but also massive restructurations.

Have a look:

  • Barre République (Lorient - FRANCE)

  • Barre Balmont (a.k.a. Barre Chapas) (Lyon - FRANCE)

Before:

After: (yet to be completed)

But there are also more "classical" renewals:
  • Quartier Belencontre (Tourcoing - FRANCE)

  • Barres Aunis & Navarre (Rennes - FRANCE)
Before:

After:

Feel free to ask me if you want more!

Horrible! What were they thinking?? Just paint the thing white and don't add all the ugly extra stuff!

Ah ah, too bad it is one of my favourites.

For the tiny "houses" on the roof, they were built after the destruction of the top-floors. And the extra-stuff on front allows this construction to be integrated better in it's environment (directly attached to the street, with shops, etc.). It was one of the main objectives as this "Lecorbusienne" architecture has been a true urbanistic and social failure for our country.

You can see on this photograph (dating back to last October) that only half of the project has been achieved (the second part is planned for September):

Amazing results. I wish something was done in Spain, there are too many ugly apartment buildings from the fascist dictatorship era.

Congratulations!

Maybe that's because they are rational modernist buildings with "good bones".

I'm afraid that this paint job didn't quite go far enough.
The light gray portions should have been further subdivided.
(Nothing bright, Something subtle like an added shade of gray, or maybe even two.)
