They're definitely not poorly built. Poorly designed and dirty, sure, but the things are like bunkers, hard to demolish. If you maintain them well, they're quite nice places. My friend's apartment is quite spacious and nicely decorated but the exterior looks dirty and old.

Yep :p it's TERRIBLE. The render made it appear as though it was going to be clad in glass, but...nope

What is the name of that one, pls?
I don't think I've seen any other building that looks 50 years old when it was first built... it will not age well.

I actually haven't a clue what the building is called but have asked in a thread, so will let you know. At the moment, all I know is where it is, and that the mayor of the suburb and the people aren't fans (though they're rarely fans, even of nice looking buildings).

Here's a few more pictures

How it was supposed to look....

How it ended up looking...

I was in Burwood today and I saw those three horrors close up...I still can't get over how ugly they are. Shame, as Burwood is actually quite a nice little suburb.

One renewed commieblock in the center of Skopje. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of his previous state.

Maybe it looks like that because of the angle of the photographer? Although I must agree with you...

Thanks for the extra info! I agree, it looks amazing now, so clean and smart-looking. That is what the modernists of the 60s had in mind when they built them, they didn't want them to fall into disrepair like what happened with many of their buildings. If they are renovated, and stay in touch with the original design, it looks superb.

I also think it will retain its whiteness longer, since the cars/factories nowadays aren't as pollutive.

Looks nice. Nice to see them renovated, but I think they should loose the roof. Massive towers like that don't suit a roof that belongs on a suburban house

The roof was added later, due to the penetration of water during rains, because in the original design this tower has a flat roof. I guess they left the roof after the renovation for the same reason.

Last year there was a project within which you can renew facades of buildings in several urban municipalities in Skopje. And this year the same project continues. Interested parties apply. Last year about 10 facades in the downtown area was renovated, and it seems that this year there will be huge interest in renovation to. Along with this project, the urban municipality of Karposh also has a project to renovate facades, within so far it has been renovated 5-6 building. In fact, the last two examples are from this municipality.
