Actually, the photos posted above have nothing to do with commieblcok renovation. There is no sinlge renovated commie in them, just views of commieblock neighborhoods.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I think all it needed was a renovation. I don't particularly like the new tower addition

They are nice examples in Russia. Those commieblocks aren't that bad to live in by what I've heard (I don't live in one) All they need in my eyes is a renovation and to be looked after. For the majority there is no need to tear them down. Why fix it when it's not broken?

The ones in the 3rd and 4th pictures look quite contamporary for commieblocks. Were they renovated, or recently built?

My guess would be the latter since there are whole commieblock districts being build in Russia to this day but it's not clear to my who builts them and for whom, private developers or some state owned companies are they social housing built with oil money or perfectly normal

These actually look like art-deco to me. Were they strictly communist buildings ?

Anyway, a few examples from my hometown, the city of Stalowa Wola. I will just post the better ones. There's mostly no "before and after", as they all looked like slabs of concrete put together. It's difficult to find good pictures so everything is taken off SSC.
