I believe it is akin to "stop" on an english bus. It is a stop request button, though I doubt it is used much on a BRT line bus.

Yeah, but not very useful in BRT lines, where it just stops in all bus-stops. Maybe late on night when there are less people embarking/disembarking, this buttom can be useful.
