-no disrespect to vietnam's awesome architectural heritage though, it's a shame that so much has disappeared forever because of war.
Most of the big and major ancient architectures of Vietnam has been destroyed in war, only the small constructions still left.. sad.. A 1000 years old Vietnamese forbidden city (Hanoi imperial citadel - Unesco heritage) used to have several palaces which're several times bigger than the palaces of 1300 Nara imperial palace from Japan.

After many wars Vietnam has suffered between Vietnam and China, the constructions've been resized many times as people rebuilt them with less money after wars. In many temples left in Vietnam nowadays, people still see a very big foundation with many big columns, all disapeared now.. The size of the current traditional columns're 3 times smaller than the constructions we used to have.

Till now, Vietnam got 3 forbidden cities which are recognised as Unesco heritage. 2 of them only have some gates, walls, few palaces and foundations left. The last forbidden city of Vietnam from 18th, 19th century are destroyed 70% in the Vietnamese war. Other imperial palaces and forbidden cities only have the foundations left.

Especially the ancient structures in the major cities are replaced by French palaces and buildings during the French colonial time here.

One sad things which is also happened in China as after wars, the goverment keep destroying many traditional constructions as they want to forget all the sad things in monarchy times.

Great set of pictures you shared here.
Yes, Vietnam's very humid as we has sea borders from the north to the south. But Vietnam's less humid than Japan and some other Asean countries. In the north and the central Vietnam, we got 4 seasons. Only in the south we share the same weather as other Asean countries such as: Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines...

Based on the places you want to visit but Vietnam's cooler than Thailand. If you want to visit the north (Hanoi - the capital, Halong bay - one of the most famous destination of Vietnam) it's better when you come in autumn times, it's the most beautiful period of Hanoi. Vist Trang An, Ninh Binh (the capital of Vietnam in 9th century) if you want to see the most beautiful landscape in Vietnam and the forbidden city which's now replaced by a 17th temple structures. In Trang An, Ninh Binh you also can visit the biggest Buddhist pagoda in South East Asia.

If you want to visit Hue (the last imperial city of Vietnam), Hoi An, My Son, it's better you dont go in winter times, it rains a lot.

South Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon) and the Mekong delta, you can visit any times, the temperature's about 75 - 85 °F.

If you want to see the culture, visit the central or the north Vietnam first. Especially in the central Vietnam which have many Unesco heritage's located next to another. Last forbidden city, several tombs (which's not just a tomb but imperial palaces) and ancient towns also there.

Visit Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon) which's a biggest and most interesting city in Vietnam, but of course cannot compare to Bangkok, Manila, Kuala Lumpur

This temple above also has elephant statues. Sometimes people put elephant statues inside the temple with horse statues. When people put elephant statues in front of a temple like the temple above, they often put a couple of elephant statue and built houses to protect them from rain..
