This thread was started when construction was already underway. We missed the design and approval phase.

Shenzhen sure is booming.
I'm hoping that we'll see some unique supertall designs soon, though.
So far, most of the newest ones have been something of a disappointment in design. Lots of boxes, which isn't a disappointment in its own right, but they lack distinction. From a distance, it wouldn't be too hard to mistake this for the Han Kwok City Centre.
I know designs like this one are more practical, but I would really like to see some CCTV style buildings here.

It's interesting that towers in Shenzhen are mostly boxes (or conservative in terms of design). That's a contrast to other Chinese skylines with sometimes over-the-top-designs. But I think there are enough unique towers coming for Shenzhen e.g. Ping An IFC or China Ressources Main Tower (teardrop-shaped).

Sure. But really, PingAn IFC is mostly unique for its height. Though it is a wonderful design, it isn't a particularly radical one.
I'm not familiar with the China Resources Main Tower, at least not by that name. Is there a thread for it?
