Madrid Autonomous Region

Hello.

This is my third attempt at contributing really to SSC. Back in the summer I created a Flickr account as by autumn I was getting a new camera, so now that I've got a Flickr account I really hope this time I don't end up abandoning this thread as the previous two I opened.

I'm going to post photographs here from time to time about Madrid Autonomous Region. As some may know already, Madrid isn't just a city as some foreigners may believe, but a region with several cities on it.

First of all, some maps about the region:

Urban areas:

Physical map:

Commuter Train Network by January/2013 (Obviously it doesn't include the HSR Network) => Cercanías Madrid

Metro Network by January/2013 => Metro de Madrid

(Madrid City) Lago de las Barquitas in El Retiro Park por AdamPHole, en Flickr

This well-known lake and park in Madrid has witnessed a lot of couples gathering and meeting there, as well as people with their families. Some East Asians living in Madrid celebrate there their weddings.
They aren't displayed on this photograph because I didn't want to but you can rent a boat there.

El Retiro park is basically the Madrid version of Central Park (New York) or Yoyogi Park (Tokyo).

By the way, this photograph was taken in winter. In Spring and Summer El Retiro park looks much better because trees have their leaves. In Autumn is nice too.

El Corte-Inglés is a kind of Spanish franchise you'll find in the whole of Spain which is quite similar to Macy's (USA).

(Madrid City) Getting on the Train in Atocha Station por AdamPHole, en Flickr

Commuter train. It's one of the newest models made by CAF and is slowly replacing the old ones.

Loved the scene, hope you like it too.

Btw, usually I don't like using photoshop effects but this time I thought it would look ok as I did.

It used to be the headquarters of the Spanish Post Office, but now it is the City Hall. The building is called "Palacio de las Comunicaciones" and it has sections opened for the public.

A very wonderful start, my friend! Looking forward to following this thread as you go along! I definitely wanted to see Madrid, not just from a tourist's eye, but also from a local... Hopefully, you can show me around Madrid that is not usually seen by regular tourists.

And by the way, I wonder if you have any Metro or bus pics that you can share too. Those would be appreciated.

I'm glad you think so.

About buses being displayed clearly, unfortunately I don't have one yet. But I'll definitely take shots of them in the future as I'm a fan of public transportation. Same goes for Metro trains.

If I didn't take full shots of them yet (as I did with the commuter/HSR trains) is because I'm still not sure if it's legal to do so here. I know about train stations it is legal as long as you don't publish it on a newspaper (on Flickr it is OK). But I'm not sure about displaying buses clearly or metro trains, but once I know for sure I'll definitely take shots of them because they are actually quite present in most of the region of Madrid and I like them.
