Pune to get light and sound garden

The project, set up at a budget of Rs 1.8 crore, was implemented over the past eight months. "A proposal has been accepted by the Standing Committee at the PMC," said Bagul, at a press conference on Wednesday.

The hour-long show will take visitors through the three-acre stretch of the garden with the help of innovative light and sound set-up. "We've themed the presentation on five different seasons of the year which will be featured in rotation throughout the year, every single evening at the park. The characteristic features of each season will be presented individually, as well as combined to celebrate special days and festive occasions throughout the year," Bagul said.

In the last seven months, over five lakh visitors have seen the multi-media laser show and availed of the facilities at the Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Kala Dalan within the garden premises. "For this new show that will be unveiled in December, we will be deciding on the entry charges for the visitors, with due consultation with the PMC," said Bagul.

The show, that will be held every evening at the Vasantrao Bagul Garden soon after the laser show, has been constructed on the lines of theme-based dynamic controlled lighting.

"We've used LED lights, that are both cost-effective and allow easy maintenance, and a large part of the sound and light equipment has been imported from China and Italy," said Milind Nagraj, general manager and head of marketing (special projects division) at Bajaj Electricals Ltd, the company that jointly implemented this project.

"We have also given a proposal to the Standing Committee, for this entire show set-up to be monitored and operated on solar energy," Nagraj said.

Panel to create priority list for traffic works


Pune: The high-level core committee formed by the state government to deliberate on traffic issues in the city has decided to make a priority list of projects listed in the comprehensive mobility plan for the city. Work on these projects will be taken only as per this priority list instead of taking them at random. The decision was taken at the committee meeting in Mumbai on Thursday.
Principal secretary of the state urban development department T C Benjamin, who chaired the meeting, told TOI that the priority of works will be decided by considering the future increase in traffic.
The committee also decided that the work on construction of a flyover at Jedhe chowk at Swargate should begin by April 1, 2012. The MSRDC has been asked to hold consultative meetings with the traffic police, PMPML, and the state transport corporation and finalise the alignment and design of the flyover.

Sassoon may get 100 CCTV cameras


Pune: A network of 100 CCTV cameras will be installed in Sassoon general hospital from February 2012 to monitor and record the activities in and around the overcrowded hospital.
As many as eight prisoners have escaped from the state-run hospital in the last few months, with the latest incident being that of undertrial Yogesh Raut, on September 17.
“We have submitted a proposal to the department of medical education and research (DMER) two days ago. If we get the approval we will install 100 CCTV cameras at strategic points in and around the hospital,” said the hospital authorities requesting anonymity.
The 1,500-bed hospital, spread across 23 acre land, has buildings of hospital, medical college, students’ hostels, nursing college, etc.
“The CCTV cameras will be installed on all floors of the hospital, medical college, hostels and other administrative buildings. The aim is to enhance the security measures and bring all work and related activities under the scanner,” officials said.

Pimpri hockey stadium to get a facelift at 2.75 cr


Pune: The Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium in Pimpri-Chinchwad is being revamped by the municipal corporation at a cost of Rs 2.75 crore. As part of the plan, floodlight facilities will be provided at the stadium, as the World Series Hockey (WSH) matches are scheduled to be held here in December.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will carry out other allied works in the first polygrass hockey stadium in the district, for which tenders have been invited.
Municipal commissioner Ashish Sharma said, “The PCMC is spending money to improve the infrastructure at the stadium. It will be a permanent asset. The general body has approved the resolution for implementing this project to install floodlights at the stadium. Earlier, the PCMC was to implement the project but the plan had to be abandoned due to the austerity measures that were taken two years back.”

8 on track & 2 pending; Pune high on special township projects

“Pune with its IT and education tag is attracting investments and builders are willing in to invest in such townships as against any other district in the state. Other than Nagpur, there is no other district which has seen so many special townships,” a senior officer at the mantralaya said.

Special townships proposed for the city are residential in nature while such projects fall in two categories — agricultural and residential. The conditions for these townships include 100 acres in one stretch, an 18-metre-wide road in the existing land as well as getting it dereserved under section 18 (B) of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act 1966 and a letter of intent from the collector in 45 days.

Officials with the Town Planning department said the special township projects needed clearances from the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board as well as the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. “A 15 per cent bank guarantee on the master plan layout too needs to be given to the government and they are supposed to operate the project for 25 years,’’ one of them said.

The entire process takes at least six months. The cleared projects for Pune are Amanora Township at Hadapsar by City Corporation Ltd, Blueridge township in Hinjewadi by Flagship Developers, Nanded City at Nanded gaon on Sinhagad road by Satish Magar, I-ven township at Jambe Marunje by Kolte Patil, Kumar Igloos at Mhalunge by Kumar Builders, Gurblakshmi Realty Township at Bhugaon by Gulbakshmi Realtors, Eiffel Township at Mulshi by Eiffel developers and Oxford Knowledge city at Lavle by Oxford Pvt Ltd.

The two projects in the pipeline are Forest Trail township at Bhugaon by Matrix Development Pvt Ltd and LK Developers at Manjari Khurd.
Town Planning department officials said these proposals were pending owing to lack of clearance.

Construction of Moshi convention centre to begin early 2012

He said that the centre has the potential to become the biggest in Asia.

The Engineering Expo 2011 will be open to public till November 21. There are 225 stalls. Manufacturers of machines, tools and accessories; hydraulics and pneumatics and instrumentation, besides light and medium industries, IT products and services units, automation, electrical and electronics, material handling equipment and process plant machinery and equipment are participating in the expo.

R Bhaskar, plant head, commercial vehicle business unit, Tata Motors, said, "The growth of Indian economy depends, to a great extent, on the growth of the manufacturing sector. Moreover, India's growth has to cover all sections of the industry. Therefore, an event like the engineering expo not only gives manufacturers an opportunity to showcase their products, but also allow technology-related learning to be shared and transferred between all stakeholders."

RV Krishnan, chairman, Business Development Bureau (India) said, "If Maharashtra has to progress, one should demand abolition of octroi. The production process needs to be streamlined. Small and medium enterprises are the backbone of the industry. It's a shame that the industry did not take a stand on India Against Corruption and did not support Anna Hazare's movement."
