I'll start by breaking the rules.
![]() There is one apartment that I truly covet in the entire world. This apartment is not in Manhattan or Chicago. And it's not even a highrise apartment. For me, it was the most beautiful apartment in the world. It was the piano nobile of the Hôtel Lambert in Paris, as it was in the days of Alexis, the Baron de Redé. I attended the Sotheby's auction in Paris back in 2005, right after the Baron's death, and bought 2 wonderful items from his library. In elegance and in taste, his apartment was unmatched. Here are leaves from the portfolio of watercolors by Alexandre Serebriakoff, ordered by Alexis to immortalize the Bal Oriental at the Hôtel Lambert in the 1960s. They were also sold at the Sotheby's auction. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Alexis, the Baron de Redé: ![]() Photo of the Baron, by Cecil Beaton (also sold at the 2005 auction): ![]() Volume II of the catalogue of the auction:

Not much of a selection here. I'd probably go with a small unit like this:
