Little progress on the sales pavilion...

The guy on the first picture, apparently a contractor, told me that the sales pavilion should be ready by mid-May and that an announcement regarding the project will be made then. When I asked him if the name would be Tanjong Pagar Centre (as stated in One Map), he smiled and said that he was not allowed to say anything about it.

As much as there is somewhat a sense of joy at finally a confirmed name. I cringe at the name itself. Seriously, "Tanjong Pagar Centre"? How creative can they get?

Agreed. Existing there is Tanjong pagar complex, Tanjong pagar plaza, now we this Tanjong pagar Center. Cant they distinguished this one from the rest? Trying to claim the center of tanjong pagar is not cool man.

Tallest building in Singapore to be built in new Tanjong Pagar Centre
Published on May 02, 2013

By Melissa Tan

An upcoming integrated development right above Tanjong Pagar MRT station is set to include Singapore's tallest building.

The main tower will be 290 metres high when it is completed in 2016.

It consists of 38 storeys of Grade A office space, called Guoco Tower, and nearly 200 residential units.

The residential units are called TP180. They start at a height of 180 metres and rise up to 290 metres.

That could finally start the age of the supertalls in Singapore. As far as I know the plans for the new Marina Bay district already included 2 supertalls, so it really appears that they have finally lifted the 280m height limit.

But on what basis would the height restriction be raised? This is not something that they can just arbitrarily do. Is it better computer and radar technology? Surely the guys in Singapore would know this. We were able to get 1,010 feet here in Miami by taking the FAA and MIA to task with the argument that such stringent height restrictions were no long necessary with the newer technology.

Pride? Nearby Johor Bahru is planning it's first supertall http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1609392

LOL no.

I'm actually not sure why such height limits are broken or changed. 10 metres isn't much in the scheme of things.
- Perhaps the developers are including or paying for public infrastructure over and above what is required in order to go a little higher?
- Perhaps it's the towers proximity to an MRT station which has allowed the height relaxation?
- Perhaps the design of the tower ticked ALL the planning & environment criteria perfectly except for the small 10 metre height incursion that was deemed insignificant in the overall scheme of things?

Who knows? At the end of the day Town Planning is something where every circumstance needs to be taken into consideration and some rules just need to be relaxed in order to provide additional services and a high quality outcome to the community.

When it comes to aviation safety, 10 metres is a lot!
