thank you for those kind words!
some more knowledge then!

Cuzco and Inca ru´nes outside the city

276.
There are more then enough churches around in Cuzco, the Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus, for many the most beautifull one in whole Cuzco.
Construction started in 1571 and almost a whole century later it was finished, offcourse during construction it was damaged by some huge earthquakes...

277.
On the Plaza del Armas of Cuzco.

278.
Enough places to rest and relax and enjoying the city and its daily life.

279.
On our way towards the church of San Cristobal for some nice views above the city of Cuzco.

280.
Some nice backstreets.

281.
View towards the Plaza del Armas from the square in front of the San Cristobal church.

282.
More views of an sea of roofs and a big rainstorm in the mountains at the other side of the city.

283.
Every mountain is used by the city.

284.
You just keep watching and watching....

285.
Wonderfull Cuzco streets! *wanna go back!*

286.
Sometimes you have to climb a bit !!

287.
Typical streets and buildings in Cuzco.

288.

289.
Cathedral of Cuzco.
Inside there is an insane amount of wealth and gold....lots of bling bling... Sadly it wasn't allowed to take pics inside

298.
View of Cuszo from Santo Domingo, this church stands on the remains of the Templo del Coricancha (Temple of the Sun).
Once the most important Inca temple in Cuzco but the spanish know what to do with it

299.
Lets zoom in.

300.
Santo Domingo.

Outside (but still pretty close) Cuzco there are some more Inca sites which we visited.
If you really want hire a cab or little van and go the most furthest away and walk back along those site towards the city itself.

301.
We start with the most impressive one of the four; Sacsayhuaman, a collossal fortress with HUGE stones (some have a weight of 17000!! kg)
The complex itself has a double zigzag wall.

302.
Cuzco ain't that far.

303.
Just amazing!

304.

306.
He no tourists!!!

Next site was Quenco, but I had more eye for the views over the city then that collection of 'rocks'

Beautiful! You show Peru brilliantly in these pictures. Arequipa looks like a very homely and quaint place and Cuzco seems quite extensive in these pictures.

Cool thread, the peruvian coast (and Andes, to a certain point) really doesn't look anything like stereotypical images we have of "latin-america" here in the west, you captured it nicely. As for Cusco, the city is nice but I really felt a strange vibe there: it's not very big but so many historical logics and very distinct populations cross each other there in a bizarre mix.

Lares trail - part one

you're lucky

Lares Trail

As part of tour trough Peru we walked a trail in the Andes moutains. Not the well known Inca trail but a more off the beaten track Larestrail.
We have to get up very early 0330AM... On our way to the start of the trail we made a stop in the town of Calca (+/- 2800m),
After that stop we finally drive over some of those 'world famous dangerous road' high up in the Andes

After a teastop in the town of Lares we went on the litterally to the end of the road at Colcani which was at an height of 3700m.
the heighest point on day one was a pass at 4350m high.

First some pics from inside the bus.

321.

322.
From now on downhill for our lunch...

323.
On our way down to 3800m. Here we had some showers and lots of wind.

324.

325.
Some clouds....

326.
Our camp for the evining and the night.

Bacause of the clouds, rain and dense fog with really a lot of wind it was very chilly that night! We needed that thermo underwair....

This time our tents were set up in some little courtyard at a local school so it wasn't that windy or cold anymore. And we even had almost a normal toilet at the school also!

On the last day we keep on walking down towards the Sacred Valley. The landscape get keeping greener and warmer. We ended in the village of Huaran at 2800m.

In the village we had a lunch and after that we were taken by a van to the station of Ollantaytambo. Here we take the train towards Aguas Calientes. From there we would visit Machu Picchu.

Bonuspicture of a groupmember would stayed the days in the Sacred Valley instead of going walking on a trail.
354.
What a landscape!!!

Next series will be the train, Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu!!

Thanx!
I try to visit a lot yeah, thats for me the ideal way of relaxing
Its also a good thing that you can see other cultures etc and can reflect on our own situation. We often complain about stuff but in europe; even during the recession we don't have it that bad.

Vietnam (2011) and Peru (2012) were the countries which were on spot one and two for me to visit.
My next big trip is still a ??? for me since, because of that recession the place I work at from the 500 people at least 100 will be sacked!
I have a good feeling that I will not be one of those 100 but till I know for sure I am not making a big trip (which normaly also cost pretty much)...
But my shortlist is:
> Ecuador and Galapagos
> Nepal including a hike in the Himalayas
> Myanmar/Birma
> Big trip in the southern countries in Afrika (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana)
> New Zealand

Arequipa has more than twice the population of Cusco. The first one is around 1 millione people in the metro area (not shown at all in those pictures) and the other one has less than 450,000 people. The difference is that Arequipa is like urban islands divided by the Campi˝a while Cusco is densely packed.

Lima

After our visit to Machu Picchu we still had 2 days in Cuzco, but those pictures were integrated in the post of Cuzco.
We nog go we a (delayed) inland fligt from Cuzco to Lima.

396.
The flight was with StarPeru in a BAe146.

397.
I had a window seat so between te clouds I did have some nice views.

Dense clouds/fog gives a dramatic edge between the coastal region and the mountains.

Lima
After landed on the airport of Lima we had more then half a day left for a short visit tot the city itself before getting back on the fligh to Amsterdam with the KLM.
Offcourse way to short for really getting a feel with the city, but that half day allready gave me a good feeling.

402.
The "blue square" (Plaza 2 Mayo) seen from inside our bus.

403.
Beatifull, old and grand buildings at the Plaza San Martin.

404.
Fantastic!!

405.
From the Plaza San Martin we walked trough the Jiron de la Union towards the Plaza del Armas. It was a joy to walk there with so many great buildings!

406.
The one even more nice then the other...!

407.

408.
Colourfull!

409.
Building with beautifull details at the Plaza del Armas.

410.
Cathedral of Lima.

411.
AWESOME!!

412.
Really lots of colours on the buildings!!

413.
Plaza del Armas.

414.
WOW!!

415.
San Francisco church.

416.
Embassy of Argentina on our way towards Miraflores.

417.
Park in Miraflores.

418.
Typical shorelin of Lima.

419.
Our plane back was named nice Machu Picchu, but the KLM still have to do some painting...since its not a normal name of a plane of KLM Asia (which normally fly to asia...)

Thanx for viewing and comments!

very interesting country indeed, with all those wild life habitats along the seashore, the llamas, the snow-covered mountains and of course, the exotic culture of the Incas.
