Yes, this project could become one of the tallest buildings in Lower Manhattan, just shy of 1 and 2WTC.

Wow...... maybe there really is no business like Shvo business, and something iconic rises here. Agree with Alex I wouldn't be surprised then if he gives us that Shvo stopper near Central Park. But I really do hope it's not another Shvo job and just let's go on with the Shvo!!!

I always envisioned that huge residential towers would accompany the new WTC one day. Little did I know that day would arrive so soon. Beekman, 50 West, 30 Park etc. are just the beginning, so it seems. I think it's a special privilege to look down on 4WTC f.e.. Must be an eerie feeling.

Sorry for the Shvo pun excess,lol... but after the mythical Central Park megatower boast(lol, maybe a future for it after all?) this kind of news for downtown that really looks as if something can start really soon and may be up in only three years or so, or at least well on the way to completion.. that kind of news is just SHVO big you gotta be playful and giddy about it!!!

I feel like a lets say 350m tower could totally distract from the spiraling effect the WTC tower arrangement causes. If Shvo wants to go bold here, then he should hire a damn good architecture company to design this tower. ( Shop )

News of the Shvo man purchasing 22 Thames was released yesterday. Michael Shvo’s wife gave a little hint a day prior and tweeted this.

@SerenShvo
The best is yet to come…. #shvo

I can just imagine an advertising slogan of 'look down at the World Trade Centre'
Getting excited about this!

Never heard of Shvo before other than a tease of a 100 floor midtown tower, what projects has he previously done?

He made his name in real estate as a broker then in marketing. He was once coined the new master of the universe in NYC. He kind of disappeared during the credit crises and turned as developer for some projects in the Middle East.

He is eccentric and has been loathed by many in the industry because of it in the past but now he is making his comeback in NYC as a developer in time for this boom we are experiencing. So this guy did just not come out of nowhere but has resurfaced and has re-invented self. lol.

One thing I’m pretty sure of is this guy has some resources with pretty deep pockets originating in the Middle East from the connections formed there and of course in Israel, which means he has New York as well.

He is doing a couple of projects now such as 239 Tenth and 100 Varick Street, but 22 Thames would be his biggest and considered his legacy project b4 he will do this mysterious “Central Park Tower”.

It needs to be very tall in order to look down at the WTC.

Exactly, and it isn't impossible if more air rights are acquired!

I rather liked the previous design. I thought it was extremely sleek and elegant. I just hope the new design is good, especially since it will be so prominent.

It would have looked great in Midtown but was too dull and banal to be placed at the prow of Manhattan and WTC. Something attenuated with shallow setbacks would be perfect for this location.

I would love for someone to clarify a few things: 1) Do we know if this will definitely be narrower than the current iteration, and based on what exactly? 2) When we say there is no height limit, does that mean that there is no FAR rule to comply with?

I'm mostly interested because the most recent design was preposterously thin. I'm hoping that whatever Shvo builds here won't be quite so needle-like.

^ the article mentioned that he would seek smaller floor plates in order to build bigger apartments.

But Shvo will likely redesign the tower with smaller floor plates for grand, full and half-floor luxury condos.
I too am intrigued about how tall and thin the tower would get considering there's no height limit but if the article is correct, 22 Thames street has about 359,130 sq/f of build-able space, by comparison Steinway, the king of thin, has about 316,000 sq/f and it's about 1400 ft tall so if Shvo wants the tallest downtown, he sure can make it happen.

Yeah, all indications are that this b*tch will go supertall. *thread moved*

The site has just been sold so we're going off of public statements from the new owner at this stage. It will take some months to get the tower redesigned.
