It looks like 432 Park is getting an all glass twin!

Great to welcome another 400+ tower. Not sure if this fits so well with the WTC towers. This one is very thin compared to the WTC towers and it distorts the spiraling down concept of the 4 WTC towers.

Having a hard time getting excited about this. Hope they change the design.

I'm starting to like it. It appears to have crown that will light up at night.

just curious.. Why was the comment on Mr. Wanda edited out of Londonium's post?? There was nothing wrong with it. It just said "where are you Mr. Wanda??"

Anyway,

I wouldn’t mind if Mr. Wanda partners up with Durst to build his $1B plus Hotel and Condo tower at 5 WTC site.

Now on to 125 Greenwich...Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate Vinoly’s design, just wished it could have been a little more creative for what will be a very expensive high quality tower. I was really pulling for SHoP to have secured the commission for it because they had demonstrated their creativity designing the Steinway with the limited space they had to work with and the selection of materials that will be used for the fašade. Now that I had gotten my disappointment out of my system, I think this will end up surprising some of us like the way 432 Park had surprised many of us as it nears completion.

I had always maintained, I like 432 Park from its inception. Despite its simplicity, it was truly one of a kind in the city. I think because of its simplicity it fitted in perfectly for a tower in conservative Park Ave architecturally.

The problem for me now and my one big gripe is that there will be another version of Shvo’s glassy version of 432 Park and that’s Silverstein’s 520 W 41st Street proposal. With these 2 developments, 432 Park unique shape of a supertall will quickly be in danger becoming just one of those towers scraping in Manhattan landscape. At least 432 Park will stand out because its fašade is concrete with huge oversized windows.

So shape wise, we will now have Trump black beauty, 432 Park, 125 Greenwich and 520 W 41st all basically having the SAME SHAPE. At least 125 Greenwich will be one of a kind in Lower Manhattan while 3 towers having the same shape are in midtown.

So If I had to select a project to change its design between Shvo’s and Silversteins, I would pick Shvo’s to remain unchanged because it will be the only one like it downtown and it will be of higher quality between the 2. So my gripe will now be locked in towards Silverstein’s moving forward. Lol.

Good news however, Silverstein may only be a massing and hopefully that’s subject to change and if it does… everything will be good in my universe.

Maybe they heard us criticizing the design and decided to change it.

I like this more than 432 Park. But that's not saying much for me.

This seems to be the start of a really lousy trend. I love that developers are going higher and higher. But the cost seems to be with the blandest, most uninspired designs possible.

Makes me appreciate Tower Verre, 8 Spruce St, 30 Park Place, 56 Leonard, just to name a few, all the more.

This looks more bland than 432Park IMO, but I prefer Tower Verre, 8 Spruce St, 30 Park Place, 56 Leonard also.

High ceilings are in vogue now!

Per Yimby
Quote:
Re: 125 Greenwich -soaring 77 stories at a pencil-like width. The floor count has only gone up by seven, and the majority of the height increase can be attributed to the enormous ceilings;

slab heights are 13 feet through the 38th floor, 16 feet from 40-65, and an enormous 24 feet from 67 through 77 (per the zoomable site-plan and stacking diagram).

Also, my opinion of this tower has changed, should the design remain unchanged. I know...I'm a flip flopper. lol.

I think this tower will look insanely amazing because of the combination of the height and width of this glassy tower. I also think the glass will be top notch here too.

It really doesn't fit in. I think they should paint a large troll face on it.

That has to be a mock up, it even has the 432 bands every 12 floors.
Nobody has mentioned this towers true impact...it will block the best views of 4 WTC!

Everything built in Manhattan is going to block something.

I like it well enough. What I like the most is that it gives downtown another peak. I have always been bothered by how the downtown skyline rises predictably to one point.

to the contrary of what many have been saying, i actually think it complements the WTC quite well (if this is indeed close to the final design). in my opinion, it's boxiness and glassiness jive really well with the complex. plus, with 50 west and 101 murray (albeit not my favorite design for this location) will all add to new and exciting downtown skyline.
