133 Greenwich St is going to look even punier sandwiched between 4WTC and this one.

Check it out, it's ridiculous: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1639243

What a shame, because that design is far superior (as in proportionate). Viñoly is just f**king up.

We don't really know that yet because there haven't been any official renderings released.

I got scared for a second and thought this building got chopped in half.

I'm really hoping they pass 1WTC's roof with some sort of crown, that would look really good!

Much better proportions and fits in much better.

I personally think it'd be a shame to destroy the visual cluster of the WTC before we even get to experience it..

I think it would just add to it, if the design weren't hideous that is. Think of it as another WTC tower.

That would be fine if it didn't break up the downward spiral the WTC complex has. It can't just be "another WTC tower" at this height, no matter how nice the design is.

Well, agree to disagree, I've never been a fan of the spiral personally.

I do however think it would look a little odd at roughly the same height as 1 and 2 WTC while being across the complex but if they added some sort of crown to go higher or even had the building taper or something of the sort it would look really cool!

They should have made 1WTC's roof higher if they didn't want buildings to surpass it.

Are we seriously dismissing a 1,300' supertall as a bad thing just to keep a 'downward spiral'?

NEW YORK | 125 Greenwich (22 Thames St.) | 413m | 1356ft | 77 fl | Prep

Yes. Height isn't everything.

Right but it is something... plus a downward spiral is going the wrong direction, it should be going up ... the fact that this tower prevents the downward spiral is actually a good thing

Your opinion is your opinion though, I just personally would love to see this go up, especially if it ended up higher than the WTC.

I'm in the camp of those who like this tower, but who would prefer it not to be quite so close in height to 1 WTC. Taller or shorter would both be fine, it just looks wonky having them be almost the exact same height on opposite ends of the plaza.

My own preference would be something that begins to taper well below 1 WTC's roof, terminating in a crown well above it. Basically a 1400-1500 ft. version of 70 Pine, at least in silhouette (I'm not at all against it being very modern and glassy, I just think a tapered crown would be nicer in this instance than a box).

Or for this to have a twin. I would 100% be behind some "Thin Twins."

^That would look cool

I think something that tapered on two sides but stayed flat on the others would look really cool, like the old waldorf astoria proposal in chicago (RIP ) or the Shanghai Financial Center.

+ 1,300' would be my hope for 125 Greenwich! It may look a little out of place with 1 WTC for now but my hope that there will be more clusters of supertalls growing in lower Manhattan and that one day 1 WTC would be lost within the crowd.

Perhaps, one day a 2,000' tower rising somewhere within the vicinity would create a new peak. perhaps a Stern Supertower??? #wishfullthinking

Sure, VG, but I'll only get on board if they keep the billionaire's row-style needles to an absolute minimum. Get yourself a decently sized plot if you want to build 400m+, damnit!

I hope this one gets built. I don't think it would impact the World Trade Center all that much. Yes, it's tall but the World Trade Center had its chance pre-9/11 to stand out and it's not the developer's fault the Port Authority can't get their shit together and finish the WTC within this century. No one should have to hold back anymore. Isn't the Nordstrom Tower being 1,775' enough?

Personally, I don't care what goes on in midtown. Build a 2000ft building up there for all I care, I just want to see what the new World Trade Center looks like standing alone towering over Lower Manhattan like the old complex did. And really, it's the timing, too. After the whole thing is done, go ahead, I would fully support a building of this height, as long as groundbreaking is after the complex is done.

Also, if you don't think this would disrupt the harmony of WTC, I don't think we're looking at the same building.

Pretty sure (at least hope) that's just a massing and the guy wouldn't design a carbon copy of his previous design in the same city.
