That still looks much more like a massing than a render... it WON'T look like that.

Never underestimate the ability of Raphael Viñoly to deliver a visually underwhelming mediocrity.

432 is at least great because of height and location, since I doubt this will end up higher than 300m I'm not really expecting much height or design wise here.

It's probably going to be lame but I hope I'm wrong.

Hey, his most famous building in Europe is a visually overwhelming mediocrity.

Lower Manhattan needs this ... the Chicago Skyneedle (2000ft/610m, 125 floors):

The skyneedle is just perfect. The proportions are perfectly suited for a tall residential tower (slim, setbacks). And the spire works pretty well too.

The tower could be built as mix-used (residenital/hotel).

Maybe ShOP and Hines will deliver something like that, but Zoolander will not. I'd be shocked if this tower is 850' tall.

But why though? Why not deliver something great?

It's a valuable space, they'd be dumb to waste it on some garbage

Agreed or maybe SHoP and Howard Hughes!

They both will have a lot of playing room to make a significant tower like this with aprox 800k sq ft worth of development each.

The skyneedle would look awesome anywhere in Manhattan. A perfect tower to represent NYC.

And what makes you say this? Also >300m means more than 300m.

I meant less than 300m, but I say that due to the massing model posting. I also just have a gut feeling that a 400+ meter won't rise here, I just don't think it'll happen.

Fortunately that is not the height this building will have. I say fortunately because that height would have been a catastrophe of interstellar proportions for Downtown and in fact the whole city

jeez, speculation is everywhere today. There is nothing which explicitly says that this tower will be shorter than what YIMBY reported. All there is to base such speculation is a non-contextual rendering and the fear of saturating the market with too many luxury condos. Both of which aren't very solid.

Ok the picture doesn't even have any other building anywhere near it, so how are you basing the height off of that?

It is based on the width of the building. The land plot has a fixed size. The render shows that the building's width to height ratio is far bigger than what it was in the previous renders of the 413 meter building. If the width couldn't have been increased because of the fixed dimensions of the land plot, then the only remaining explanation is that the building was shortened

Besides, the shortened render on the gate is the most recent one and the only official one. Because it is newer it can be assumed that it replaced the old ones (which btw were all fan made). The figure Yimby used was released long before the gate render was made, so the gate render is the latest and up to date design. It might not be the final design, but it is the most recent design, so this is what we should expect for now
