No, why did the design change??

The new design has a totally unneeded extension on the top. It should have just been a perfect rectangle instead of what that thing on the roof makes it. Now it looks like a stretched out version of 4WTC, which is even worse because there is actually another 4WTC copycat planned right next to this one

Yeah, the only building design I ever gave any damn about seeing built in this rather boring, uninspiring glass boxes cluster is 2WTC. The design is the most interesting in the group, and the facade is different than the others. However, knowing how this complex redevelopment has gone, they'll probably redesign it to have a glass facade system just like the others, making the whole complex that much more uninspiring.

If you made a comment like that about Chicago or Atlanta, you'd be called a "troll" and would get banned.

... and totally forgetting about 4WTC, a masterpiece of modernism. The glass is in a league of its own.

Those threads would already be flooded with angry comments and personal attacks / threats. (see Chicago Post Office development). Don't you dare and speak some truth about certain cities ...

I don't know but I'm beginning to believe there's some kind of inferiority complex.

Sorry for the OT.

I too find the WTC complex uninspiring (except the excellent WTC2).

If downtown Manhattan ceases to build bigger and better because of the potential impact of the WTC master plan, then it's a sad day for NY.

Screwing up the WTC complex shouldn't mean that every other development has to be sup par from this day forward....

Maybe it's better that way. Lower Manhattan doesn't need a Midtown forest of bland boxes. The WTC complex should provide all the Class A office that submarket needs for many years to come. When 2 WTC gets built it will all look much better as well. That said, I wouldn't mind if some of that c.1970 junk around Coenties Slip got replaced by sexy supertalls!

Downtown would def look sick if some of the waterfront stuff was replaced with modern glass supertalls. Those would be some big buildings to tear down though....

Yeah, that's about as much as some decent sized cities have altogether in their CBD's. Pretty crazy...

Viñoly.

Didn't expect much after the Selldorf design got scrapped. OK height too. They said they didn't want to upstage WTC and they came through in abundance. How high can you pile mediocrity? We're getting closer to the answer...

What is that smoke stack look?? It reminds me if 750 7th ave near times square. I'm satisfied with the height, but does that figure include that smoke stack thingy??? Lol

It runs down the entire eastern facade.

These guys could make a good project and climb to 1100 feet, but they did the opposite, with a weak design and a "low" height.

I like the design. It is simple, yet elegant, although the tower should have been taller

I would expect Viñoly to do better than this.
